Expanding into an existing overlap - different version :)

Post by ravenflight »

Hi All,

Can a BG expand into an existing overlap and by doing so not comply with the rules re battle group formation. Ie: is it legal for a BG of 12 pike with a frontage of 2 bases (so 2 wide 6 deep) that is overlapped to put one pike element into the overlap position and leave the remaining bases where they were, so 3 wide, 1 file 1 deep, 1 file 5 deep, 1 file 6 deep.

The reason for the fancy formation was that an impassible terrain feature stopped more bases from being fed into the combat.

I thought 'no'. You can't volunteer to be in an illegal formation.

I believe you were correct to think no.
