280mm rail artillery in Beta 0.98

Post by Steakenglisch »

I've played Poland (desicive), Norway (desicive) and actual Low Lands ... i had no option to buy the rail artillery :-(
Is this a bug? Or a design decision? If its by design, in witch scenario will the rail artillery be first acquirable? It make especially in the early years sense ...

ah ok thx, what was the reason for this? Most Maps from 1944 to 1945 are maps where the player has to defend (if not played sealion before)
and i suggest the rail guns where used during the attacking phase in the early years of the war?

Gustav gun appears in Stalingrad scenario so I placed this one after it because it reuses the same icon also it is quite heavy artillery to be present just from the start. It is hard to get used to it once when you tried it, isn't it.

Well it is a really big gun :-) and it was fun to use it during the Blitzkrieg ... storming with a task force around the rail gun from city to city along the railroad ...
i will test the new version of the 39er campaign to see how good it is but if i remember right the Wurfrahmen40 as higher soft and/or ground attack right? An its not bound to the railroad ... so i suggest in the later years of the war the purchase of the railroad artillery makes not so much sense like in the begining of the war ...

By the way i like the changes with the movement/fire icon and the supply warning you ve made in the new beta, great job!
And the new campaign selection / scenario selection looks great, only in the scen selection seems to be a bug everytime i see only the poland map displayed when i choose any scenario.

P.S. cant await the final!!! You guys all do a very fine job!!!! :-) thx for that!

No bug luckily, just we had no time to finish all the individual maps yet so all use Poland, but they are done now, so next Beta next week they will be included. Thanks for reporting anyway, you could not know.

All rocket artilleries got lower hard attack because it was to powerful so in terms of statistic rail gun should be stronger than it.

Here is a link about german railartillery guns (history and tech data) this article describes the use of rail gun artillery in ALL Campagain ... so it makes sense to purchase the rail gun in Poland, maybe you can make it more expensive? But i think to introduce it in 1943 is to late, from the point of historic realism and from the point of gameplay.

Maybe a topic to discuss between the developers? :-)

The rail gun is really there for flavour and fun - its not intended to be a key unit for success and should not be. We don't want everyone to be building them and it woudl not be vaguely historically accurate!
