Some of my thoughts as of end Tutorial

Post by tnourie »

First, I would like to say that the little explosion animations with dirt flying are great, easy to see and I can hear the sounds of it falling\hitting the ground!! Brilliant! The explosion Gifs are rendered nicely and are crisp.

Second, it is difficult to tell the difference between a unit that I have moved but not attacked with yet from the "virgin" units that haven't moved or attacked. Also, on that note, if I attack and wait to move, there seems to be no indicator that I have taken one of the two possible actions, or which one I have taken. Seeing this would be great for my planning. . .

I would like the unit to "face" the attack, it just looks better. If it helps, you can use a program I use to alter the Jpg or Gif, it is called Irfanview. It's freeware from Germany, I think, here is a link: http://www.irfanview.com I've used this program for years to adjust the facing, size, and look of pictures.

The red line through units that have completed both the movement and attack phase of their turn is good, but it makes it difficult to see the remaining strength.

Can you denote, in your unit inventory list panel, an indication of which transport mode is current for that unit? A wheel or "track" icon along with the units name?

I would like to see the path that the unit takes to get to it's destination, also when it retreats? Instant movement is faster, however I prefer to see where it is going. Can this be a "checked " option? i.e.: View Movement Path Y\N or somesuch?

I'm at work now so I'll get back to you with a bunch more later. But so far, GREAT stuff!!!! I'm pumped for more! And thanks so much for choosing me to be on your beta test team.
Thanks,
Tim Nourie

I would have to agree here. I have just finished the tutorial on v0.98. Very impressed with upgrades.
Specifically: The text for the begining of missions is much more informative for all levels of player
Selection screen of scenario/campaign is well done; much, much better
The information 'pop ups' on the right hand UI is helpful. One minor issue though: I hovered over the supply button and then moved to the reinforce button and clicked. What happened... I supplied the unit because the information pop-up was still active. As I said, minor.
I really like that AA is now deadly to aircraft at short range (0-1 hex) while less effective at 2+ hex.

I am going to try the campaigns tomorrow but I like what I see so far, big improvement already.

Only 'wish list' item would if the campaign area could be larger allowing for more manuering. Would it work or mess up the balance? Don't know but it is a thought.

Tanks again

This post looks old, is it from the previous beta?

Either way...:

Your point: Do you still have this problem after beta.98 and the new addition of '4 state visualization'?

Units do change direction (limited to left and right facing) in response to attacks now.

Red line is gone.

Inventory transport is a topic that has been discussed, we are working on a solution.

Unit path destination is also covered in The List

8. Train movement, and all unit movement to an extent (actual unit sliding not teleportation falls under this too)

I did remove it from my "Am I in the right place" thread and moved it here for general consumption\opinons. Shows you're reading these. . .

Heading back into the fray. Going to try Low Countries again, hashed it twice now. . . It looks as if the allies have the knowelege to go along with their historicly good armor. Damn AI. I don't want to have to cheat to keep my core alive!

Accept loss as a part of life. Once you do, you'll be better for it.
And so will your multiplayer skills! :D
