Vienna 1683 Polish question

Post by Scrumpy »

The list says upto 1/3rd of the points can be from the Later Polish list, and the C-in-C must be Polish too.

I assume that means the 266 pts in an 800 pt army must include a general ?

If so you don't have many points left over for any other troops when you have 1 winged hussar at 92 pts and a minimum 40 pts on a Cossack bg to add to the winged ones.

Not having my book yet I cannot make an accurate guess, but it seems to show the problems of recreating a historical orbat - ie Poles at Vienna 1683 - with pouint limitations. There are accurate accounts of Vienna including what troops were present. If one then abstracts that to fit in with a pointed game then you will end up with very few troops as per the example above.

Pretty much the case I'm afraid - do it at 2000 points and the issue goes away :D

Also you don't want an army that existed for such a short time to be allowed too much flexibility.

Looking at the "Special Campaigns" for the Hapsburg Austrian list, it says "Up to 1/3rd of the armies points can be spent on TROOPS......" .

I take this to mean points for troops excluding the points for the C-in-C.

Looking at the rulebook, the section on troop types excludes any mention of generals and therefore for this list my view is that you can spend 266 points on troops of which 4 Hussars at 92pts and a minimum of 4 Cossacks at 40pts are compulsory leaving you with 134pts to spend on other troops excluding the C-in-C which comes out of the overall army cost.
