Contacting Enemy BGs and Camp

Post by atatnet »

Hi all
Can you help with the following situation?

Situation:
A large BG of Cavalry contacts the enemy unfortified camp and a BG of enemy foot in the Impact Phase. The Cavalry BG is still in contact with the enemy foot BG (and the enemy camp) after Impact Phase combat has been resolved.

Questions:
1. In the Manoeuvre Phase some of the Cav bases are not in the position to contribute to combat. Can the Cav BG :
a. conform to the enemy foot BG, and/or
b. feed more bases into this existing melee?

2. In the following JAP, if the Cav BG is still in contact with some of the enemy foot BG and the enemy camp, and since Breaking Off moves are done before Stopping Looting CMT rolls:
a. how does the Cav BG Break Off?
b. if this Break Off results in the Cav BG separating, how is this Break Off performed?

(Note that the Cav bases in contact with the enemy camp cannot be moved, since "Stopping Looting" CMT has not been rolled yet.).

IMO
Those bases in contact with the camp cannot move out of contact with it until they have rolled in the JAP. It may not be able to conform but fights as if conformed, bases not in contact with the camp may be moved to add to the melee, and since BG cannot be split, the cav may not break off until it after it has rolled to stop looting, so it may not break off in the turn it contacts the camp.

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!
