Anyone Having Sound, Loading or Crashing Issues? Please Read

Post by AgentX »

On another thread, I was discussing a crash issue with Rudankort of the Panzer Corps team. Now, my issue was the game would crash every 30 minutes or so. First symptom would be that the sound would "crap" out and lose all game sound effects. That would soon be followed by the mouse no longer able to select anything, the system menu would be unable to load, and a range of "whacky" graphical errors (white menu screen, enemies disappear, etc). When it happened, the only way to escape was to close it through the task manager.

In my case, I tend to save and reload a lot so I can try a variety of solutions to an attack plan. The problem I came upon was that every time I would reload a game save, it would add about 20MB to the game's memory usage. It doesn't sound like much, but it adds up quickly and, before you know it, PanzerCorps.exe is using over a GB of memory. Once it reaches 1.3 to 1.5GBs, the game crashes for me. What I like to find out is if other people are having this problem? Especially people who tend to save and reload a lot like myself. Next time you start the game, load a game save and then check the task manager to see how much memory PanzerCorps.exe is using. Should be around 300MB or so to start. Now, quit to the main menu, reload the game save again and check the task manager once more. Is the game now using about 20MB more memory? Quit and restart a couple of times and see if it has increased substantially.

Also, if anyone has a crash, take a look at the log and make a copy just in case Rudankort would like to see it. The log is located at: My documents\My Games\Panzer Corps\Log\log.txt. Note: look and make a copy of the log before restarting the game or the game will overwrite the previous log. My log would show a sound file error, looking something like this: "mciSendString(play DamageGroundMiss1) failed." Along with a message: "Error: Not enough memory available for this task." What seems to be happening is that there is a memory leak problem and every time I reload, I'm adding to game's memory usage. Once it gets high enough, I get a sound error because the sound file can't load due to the memory usage. The game then crashes which my log shows the sound error that caused it. Please add a post with your results. Any information other people may be having with this issue would be a great help to Rudankort and his team.
