Some thoughts about PCorps

Post by andreinic »

First of all I have to congratulate you for a job well done and thank you for allowing us to beta test this game! As a PG fan I had very high expectations for this game and after playing it for the last two days I have to say that I am quite impressed. I got totally immersed in the action!

I played the game on a AMD Phenom II X6, 4Gb, GeForce GTX460, Win 7 64bits. and a 24'' monitor ( on desktop resolutions higher than 1600 X1024 the main menu doesn't fit the screen entirely, but the game is ok).

I started with the tutorial but after a few rounds accomodating with the interface and reminding myself how it all works (it works very much like the old PG) I just wanted to jump right into the campaign. Ofcourse, the tutorial needs a bit of text and explanations for people who are not acustomed with the game, it needs to interact a bit with the player.

I played the 1939 campaign with the Axis and I found the game really challenging. Ofcourse this is the whole idea, and i think this is where all the fun of the game comes from. I played the game on normal difficulty, and I had to save and load many times and rethink my strategy, but maybe for a beginner this may prove to be too much. He may not have the patience , and he is usually looking for easier gratification. I didn't play on easy, so i don't know how easy the easy level is :)

I like the fact that the game remains within the lines of the old PG (no fancy graphics, just strategy) but somehow I wanted some more diverse maps and campaigns, a bit different from the PG campaigns. There are only the campaigns in Europe and the invasion of US just like in PG. I wish there was a camapign for the North of Africa, or at least some scenarios in Africa. Or a US campaign that takes place in the Pacific and some more emphasis on sea battles. There is so much potential with this game! Maybe in a future expansion or add-on.

I have read some other posts in the forum and there aren't many things to add.

-Maybe in the purchase and upgrade menu, some more info on the units, like what are they suitable for, or some interesting facts about them or some war photos with them. There is a huge gap in the middle of the screen, and until 1943 there aren't many units available for purchase to fill that gap.
- The weather forecast in the upper part of the panel can be misleading, maybe text is required in case one forgets the info on the slide at the beginning of the turn.

- On 1920X1200 resolution the margins of the game screen are visible, as if the game runs in window mode and you can resize the screen with the mouse.

- Hitting ESC to go to main menu can sometimes make the game unresponsive and I have to stop it from the task manager.

That's all for now. If I discover something new I will surely post it!

About this, when it happens to you again, could you please try to look for the settings screen in the taskbar? As an idea, what you describe might happen if the settings screen opens but is not brought to foreground for whatever reason.

PS. What operating system do you use? From your description I guess it is Vista - correct me if I'm wrong. :)
