Terrain revision

Post by adherbal »

We've completely redone most of the terrain tiles in the new beta. In case there are any problems/concerns about the tiles, please report. For example the current bocage terrain looks too similar to the random fields, which is something we'll have to address.

Note that at this moment only Poland, Overlord and Tutorial have been polished to make optimal use of the new tileset.

I think the new terrain tiles are much better now and very pretty, if we can tackle bocage and divert the fields a bit more, we are definitely finished with them.

My seas don't look like that....

This picture was taken of Sealion though. 1680x1050 resolution.
And as a heads up if you don't already know, very dense hexes of forests transitions poorly.

Bocage vs country-side is definitely an issue. I think the best solution is to leave Bocage as is, and change countrysides back to the 'small village houses' that it previously appeared as.

I really like the new tiles - now that they "spill" from one tile to the next it looks much more natural. Mountains actually look like impressive ranges instead of grey coloured prarie dog hill. Very much what I was thinking a few months ago: http://slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... highlight=

For the already mentioned bocage - I think putting field back to the way they were would ruin the effect - I would suggest maybe thining out the tree lines deviding the fields slightly and sub dividing bocage into twice as many fields might differenciate them enough.

The only other thing I would do, would be to add a bit more variety to you coastal tiles just to give the shorelines a more natural look. Right now you have ocean hexes with coast - you could add some clear hexes with coasts. Also you could add some single point coastal tiles so you can put 2 coasts back to back to create thin pointy bits:

While playing Poland "mud" tiles has appeared - sometimes there are totally black hex, like one near Cracovia.

Those coasts look more natural, but they also look poorly defined to me and I worry how that will translate to PzC where the editor auto generates tiles.
Maybe would be good overlays to have?

That is because dry tileset has changed a lot, but muddy/frozen tiles are still old and did not catch up yet. But we'll fix it of course.
