Scenario comparison for PG/PC

Post by OmegaMan1 »

I got out my old Panzer General strategy guide and took a look at the scenarios offered in PG as compared to what will be offered in Panzer Corps. Out of curiousity, I decided to do a side-by-side look, broken down by year (please forgive my lack of formating, my HTML knowledge is woefully short):

PG Scenario ......... PC Scenario

1939:
Poland .................. Poland
Warsaw ................. ---

1940:
Norway ................. Norway
Low Countries ...... Low Countries
France (No SL) ..... France (No SL)
France .................. France
Sea Lion 40 .......... Sea Lion 40
Sea Lion Plus ........ ---

1941:
Balkans ................ Greece
Crete .................... ---
Barbarossa .......... Barbarossa*
Kiev ...................... Kiev*
Moscow 41 ............ Moscow 41*
Early Moscow ....... Early Moscow*

1942:
Sevastopol ........... ---
Stalingrad ............ Stalingrad*
Moscow 42 ........... ---
--- ........................ Sea Lion 42

1943:
Kharkov ............... ---
Kursk ................... Kursk*
Moscow 43 ........... Moscow 43*
Husky .................. Italy*

1944:
Byelorussia ......... Bagration*
Anzio ................... Gustav Line*
D-Day .................. Overlord*
Cobra .................. ---
Anvil ................... ---
Market-Garden ... ---
Ardennes ............ Ardennes*

1945:
Budapest ............. Lake Balaton*
Berlin .................. Germany
Berlin (East) ....... Germany East
Berlin (West) ...... Germany West
Washington ......... USA

The following PG North African scenarios are not represented in PC:
North Africa
Middle East
El Alamein
Caucasus
Torch

Note that all of the PC scenarios above marked with an "*" indicate each has a "west only" and "east only" version. I'll post some thoughts in the next message.

Taking a look a that list, it seems that most of the war is well-covered in PC in regards to the original PG game. However, I do feel a scenario or two could be added in a couple of places. For example, maybe another east front scenario for 1942 and 1943, and an additional scenario in the west for 1944. What does everyone else think? (And please forgive me if the scenario list is unchangeable at this point. I am just looking to get as many possible "official" scenarios out of PC as possible. :D )

There's at least two more scenarios planned, but will they (or others) be created, tested, balanced, and made to fit in the current campaign structure in time? That's the real question.

Absolutely... I understand that with the game getting closer to release adding new scenarios might be a stretch. But I really think that even if they do add two more (if I were making suggestions I would say Sevastopol and Market-Garden), it would be worth extra effort to make the PC campaigns more comprehensive. At this point I feel the early periods of the war are well-covered, I would just like to see some more detail in the later stages of the war. I'd be willing to wait (as a consumer) if a longer wait meant some more content, hopefully others who want this game will agree. :)

You know, if PzC was made to be a carbon copy of PG, at it's best it would still only be just as good as PG. I'd much rather see development be placed into making something with more to offer than original PG, especially in regards to the multiplayer environment. Just my opinion.

You are absolutely right. I agree that PzC needs to stand on its own, and perhaps as an old PG fan I overlook that fact sometimes. I believe that, other than a few minor bugs/issues, if PzC was released today it would be a fantastic game. And of course there are always future expansions for PzC, of which I hope there are many! Thank you for helping me keep things in perspective.
