My first impressions

Post by NickGen »

My first impressions :

I immediately found in the same atmosphere as in Panzer General... a good start.

The start interface is clear and pleasant , too bad there have not more options available (display resolution, ect) but I suppose it will be settled later ...

At the Map level, I love the current look of the graphics, just a little less for the hills and mountains, for me should be larger to meet the scale of other elements in the map...
There will be more variety in the terrain hexes in the final version? (Two or three hills, mountains, different cities, it's just ...)
There are some bug displays, but are probably due to the beta: missing graphics ports, rivers or roads missing, or with poor transitions.

Regarding the game itself, there are many panzer general feel of the game is fun and easy to take over ...
But, for campaigns, the challenge is wrong dosage ... the first parts are difficult, while the following scenarios are becoming easier and easier ....
It would be good to substitute one type of units by another, on the placement / upgrade units at the beginning of a scenario: I find myself with no less than in past scenarios 10 fighters .... I fill replaced by other units.
It would be interesting to have a popup window for certain events: for example, in "rugged defense," "ambush", when the weather prevented the planes to attack ...
I am finished the great campaign : 1939 , too bad there have not more choice of theater in game ... I would have liked to fight in africa, have scenarios involving snow weather... the Ardennes counter-attack ... ect ... but I guess it depends on my results ....
Anyway, the game is already very pleasant, and we can not resist to return to it again and again ...
:)

sorry for my English, I'm French

Hey NickGen, I didn't comment on this earlier, but it is a good feedback. The problem with campaign difficulty is something we will address, it should be more uniform. There are some more scenarios in the new update (version 0.94), including Ardennes. But Africa will not be included with the first release - more likely it will be in the first expansion.

Thank you for the reply,
I know the game is currently in progress and that many things can still change ...
I have been interested in the scenario editor, and I just watched the various datas files that can be easily modified...
For the release, the game will remain open or the datas files will be protected?
I think it is possible to create entirely new mods, with new period, other worlds ... the possibilities seem enormous ...
About the editor, I think it is unfortunate not to work directly with the "Hex tiles" of the game, it would be pleasant indeed to construct the map and seeing directly the result ... Is it for reasons of programming or a personal choice?
In any case, the desire is great to go into the creation of mods/Scenarios/maps, with the editor ... But probably I will wait the release of the game ...

I tested quite a few new scenarios, and the great campaign of the new beta .... a lot of progress, and the campaign already looks much more balanced ... No new bug report (other than those already found by other testers ...)
To be continued

Hi Fred! It is great that you are interested in the editor and modding, not much feedback in these areas so far...

Yes, they will.

I've touched this in a different topic, but worth to repeat it here:

I'll try to explain our approach. In a PzC map you have two independent data layers: terrain and tiles. Terrain is what effects the gameplay. Tiles is what you see. I did not want to mix one and the other, because somebody may want to make a completely different tileset for the game, with a different number of tiles, different number of layers etc. So, what you do is this: you specify terrain first, and then the editor generates tiles for you (Tools->Generate tiles command). Some people would generate tiles only once, after all terrain is already set. Other people would want to invoke it many times, after each minor change. The choice is yours, but the editor supports both approaches.

Looking forward to seeing custom scens made by you then. :)
