Actually it doesnt matter as only one of your armies can be in Roman land at any one time, so your hairies ( are Sassinids hairy ??) will always be at a 3 to 4 disadvantage in # 's of armies sneeking about, of course you have the element of the initiative: when and where to enter, and we cant follow or do any kind of prementive strike.Blathergut wrote:I actually wish I could move through them. I'm the only hairy who can't coordinate both armies onto one enemy. Franks can only hit west and Goths only east.

You can retreat across the border back to your homeland from any border province.TheGrayMouser wrote:Quick question, from the rules it appears barbarian armies CANNOT move thru other barbarian nation homelands, is this so?
You can only cross the border into the empire into provinces close to your homeland - 4 for most barbarians, 2 for the sassanids and 1 for the goths.
The split of armies is intentional - I don't want the barbarians to be able to coordinate too closely!
Just waiting on batesmotel force split now, then we can publish the Roman army locations and go first moves!

Will the barbarian armies be id'd on the map per nation and army strength? ie: will we know if Bates has a 300 ap army in Persia and a 500 in Vandalia or vice versa prior to ist moves being declared , or are these going to be hidden????davouthojo wrote:You can retreat across the border back to your homeland from any border province.TheGrayMouser wrote:Quick question, from the rules it appears barbarian armies CANNOT move thru other barbarian nation homelands, is this so?

After the first move, I was expecting all army sizes to be public.....I know this is not ideal, but easier to maintain on the one spreadsheet....will review this after a couple of years to judge if hidden strengths will add to the fun sufficiently to justify the effortTheGrayMouser wrote:Will the barbarian armies be id'd on the map per nation and army strength? ie: will we know if Bates has a 300 ap army in Persia and a 500 in Vandalia or vice versa prior to ist moves being declared , or are these going to be hidden????davouthojo wrote:You can retreat across the border back to your homeland from any border province.TheGrayMouser wrote:Quick question, from the rules it appears barbarian armies CANNOT move thru other barbarian nation homelands, is this so?

OK, starting positions are posted, we are go!
Admin matters:
The moment I have received orders from everyone, I will execute them and post a new map plus narrative/battles in the history thread. Use the history thread for game events - battle results, pay-offs etc. Use this thread for rules questions/ideas.
On the current map post in history, I will list a deadline, at which time I will assume that any move not received will be a HOLD.
I'll try to keep the deadlines tight, to limit too much coordination!

Ah bummer, I was hoping starting army strengths would be noted BEFORE making ist moves.... This is going to put us Romans in a pickle....
Anyways, i would say army strengths should remain visible, reasoning is we are all around the same skill level and even a 50 Ap size difference will be enough to ensure defeat of an opponent. Will encourage manevuer vs being surprised and suffering crippling defeat. Also , Each turn represents a year so you should have enough time to count:)

Early, the troop limits and allies are based on that, and our Roman generals are so good they will avoid Adrianople-like disasters that makes the change necessary....batesmotel wrote:Which version of Dominate Roman list will be used. I think the Early ends at 367 AD so officially after the starting year but just barely.
