Rear Charge With No Combat

Post by Morbio »

There seems to be a bug with combat (rear charge) at the edge of the screen. A cavalry unit attacked a disrupted LF unit and the LF evaded to the edge of the screen, where it stopped. The cavalry followed and caught the LF in the rear and there were no cohesion drops and no casualties. Normally I'd expect it to rout in that situation.

Ironically, both armies were within a couple of BPs from losing. I finished the turn 2 short of winning, and 1 from losing. So, these missing 2 BPs weren't important at all! Next turn the game ended in a draw. As it happens it was only a fun practice game so no harm was done 8)

Here's the screen shots.

Before:

Contact (note the message):

After (not the message now - no attack! The attack listed is for the following combat between 2 LH):

Please investigate this because it's taken me over an hour to get these 3 screenshots!

Now the rant I promised earlier. Taking screenshots in FoG is unbelievably difficult! It shouldn't be this way! In these screenshots you will notice part of the menu on the screen. That's because the only way I eventually found to get the shots I needed was by pressing the menu button the pause the replay, and even then it doesn't pause exactly when you press it. Having got it to stop at the right time, I then had to take the screen capture twice! The first capture display an image previously captured or displayed earlier. I then had to delete that image and then take it again. So, 2 screen captures to get the image on display! I tried just pressing Prt Scr but the screen captured is something that had previously happened, or a black screen (first capture). I thought I read previously that this was a known bug, and people had previously posted other tools for taking images, so I thought I'd try that. I downloaded Hypersnap and got the same problem. I uninstall that and download FastStone Capture and the same again. It doesn't seem to matter what I use, the image captured is never what is on display as the replay is playing. Even when I pause and take the image with FastStone, I try selecting the area I'm interested in and FoG throws a flickering wobbly! It does take the picture, but it's difficult to see what is on the screen. I resulted to taking the full screen image and cropping it. FoG really doesn't like not being the top/active screen!

I know this has been posted before (several times), but please either give some decent screen capture functionality in game, or allow the replay to be paused, or fix it so that when windows (or another application) captures the screen it actually captures what is on display.

My PC isn't anything unusual. It's Windows 7 Home Edition (or Premium).

AAAARRRGGH!

Any comment from Slitherine about either point?

I'd like to think that if players take the trouble to take screenshots and report potential bugs then Slitherine should take the trouble to at least acknowldege the post and give an indication of what is likely to happen next, otherwise what's the point of a Tech Support section?

Hi,

I suspect you are watching a replay and the error is in the replay video. That is the unit was not disrupted before the charge and was disrupted at the end of the charge, but the replay is displaying that information from the start.

From recollection I think this is not the case. However, not only was there no disruption, there was no combat! Look at the detailed message - after the unit evaded it stopped at the edge of the board and no combat followed, the combat listed is for the following combat between 2 LH units.

The game is still on the server in the completed games list. Please feel to review it, or any associated logs it's listed as #S&S - Georgians vs Cumans I with Cumans (Morbio) and Georgians (Deeter).

This has just happened again in the RoR Companions Cup match vs Davouthojo. I attack LF vs LF, it evaded to the edge and my unit followed into the rear. No disruption and no damage.

Please fix this, it can't be too dificult to recreate.

As the last question. Are you watching a vide replay? Or did this happen is your own player turn.
Thanks

As the last reply: This was not a replay, this was during my turn as it was with the first post. It is a bug!
