Are Turns not saved if the PC got a power off?

Post by FedeM »

Hi, hope everything is fine. Today I was playing several multiplayer matches on my laptop. Making the fisrt moves on the last one suddenly I ran out of battery and the computer turned off. I turn it on to continue the match and I found that I can start the turn from 0 been able to move the same BG again in a different manner if I want.

Could someone please check if that always happens? If so I think that it is imperative to find the way that this do not happen because clearly someone could just plug the computer off on purpose if some move or something turned bad to try again and maybe do something different.

Thanks for the help and regards,

Games against the AI seem to be recoverable at least some of the time when this occurs. For games against another player, the only time the game is saved is when you explicitly close the game/end your turn.

That scenario reared its ugly head not long ago. Not sure of the technicals , but Slitherine/hexwar has advised they have taken steps to prevent that exploit from being an issue again.

Im not very savy but if doing that you are able to change a move you made seems to me that other measures have to be taken.

They have, a goon squad WILL show up at your abode and break your mouse hand.

Seriously though, even though you probobly COULD move units differently in the event of a crash, they have taken measures to ensure no advantage can be had ( at least in the realm of what is practical) Also, no doudt every thing is recorded as MP is played on a server, so funny business should be spotted quite quickly anyhow .
I cant find the posts that they indicated this on, likly deleted.

There was an accusation of cheating in the tournament which have investigated and have found no evidence.

Cothyso has been declared the winner of the January tournament so congratulations.

To avoid any issues like this in future we're adding a more rigourous logging system to ensure everyone can be 100% sure that the system is secure. This will roll out with the release of Legions Triumphant and will not run any tournaments until this has released just to ensure there are no doubts about the security of the system.

We're also continually upgrading the server and have added more systems to track any kind of naughty behaviour so be warned we are watching you and make sure you play fair Wink

Yes there are new security measures. Replaying turns gives you no advantage as all rolls will be the same.
Those are the quotes I can find from Iain on the subject.

Short of the system saving continuously, I don't see how this can be completely stopped. I had one weekend where a car hit the hydro pole at the end of the road and all power went out. I was in the middle of a turn. The next day a pole at the opposite end of the road rotted apart and all our power went out. Again, was in the middle of a turn.

As mentioned, if when I recharge in to an enemy BG I still get 1% to him and 18% to me, at least that helps. Maybe I choose to not charge!! But short of simultaneous movement where I see your moves as you do them, I don't see how you can completely avoid this. I don't think I'd lose sleep over the thought of someone doing it.

How many cars do you own that you can keep crashing them so often :D

I think the point is ALL the dice rolls are remembered (if not the actual movement of troops) so even if you move differnt units , dont charge etc , the sequence of the dice PRE crash will still be the same bad or good . The expoit this was meant to prevent was to stop soemone from keep redoing a specific combat or series of combats until finally getting a good roll. I suppose a real pychopath could attempt to find some way to benefit but hopefully at the cost of frying their PC from so many purposefull crashes.
