My Gauls are finally closing on davouthojo's masses of Illyrian MF who haven't advance at all. Both flanks are bottle-necked by impassible terrain while the enemy right are comfortably ensconced along a tree line. The big Gallic push is against the center which is in open ground and things there seem to be going well. Don't remember the score off hand, but the Guals have lost less points so far. However, the Illyrian army is much larger so many will have to be killed. Anarchy has been a problem for both sides.

The actual score vs Lysimachos and I is about 18/84 (me) vs Lysimachos 38/83 or something very close to this.

I have had the better of the mf battle in the fields at the moment whilst the HF centre combat is looking a lot better for Lysiamchos so the game is still in the balance.

The Illyrian Civil War is over. It seems the Pyrrhus Tribe had been neglecting their sacrificial duties to the gods. This particularly angered the great goddess Fourfivesix, who withdraw her favour to the Pyrrhusian's for the duration of the battle. The Hannibalites gained control of a winding woodland river and with greater numbers swamped he opposing MF on the other bank. The more numerous enemy HF had to take the long route around a group of lakes on the flank, arriving to late to fully join the battle.

Attalid Pergamene (Hannibal - Morbio) vs Spartacus Slave Revolt (Pyrrhus - Hidde)

A long (22 turns ) battle which ultimately resulted in a crushing victory for the Attalid Pergamene army. The AP army was pleasantly surprised to find the 'very crowded' battlefield to be a large wide open plain with no adverse terrain on it, with hills and woods on one side (Slave side) and a small collection of Steep Hills and Woods on the Slaves right flank with a small open area between the 2 sets of terrain.

The Slaves did not like the look of the open spaces and decided to camp in the woods and on the hills and to party and drink beer refusing to come down despite the AP army waiting patiently in the plains below.

After turn 6 skirmishers finally met and threw a few rocks and sticks at each other. Meanwhile the increasingly bored AP commander decided to send a LH scouting unit to investigate the little wooded rocky outcrop on his left flank.

Much to his surprise a bunch of LF, Armoured Slaves and Cavalry commander were found hunkered down moaning and groaning about the lack of beer.

Despite the adverse terrain the AP commander dispatched cavalry and skirmishers to start a fight with the isolated group. The Slaves in the woods started to help their beleagured bretheren, but the difficulty in carrying kegs of beer to the rocky outcrop proved too much, so they went back to the hill party (or maybe the AP forces moving to intercept them deterred them). About 8 turns later the isolated group were ultimately despatched despite taking great chunks out of the Galatian Cavalry. In the meantime the AP LF had whittled down the defensive line of poor LF in front of the Slave ranks, only a few losses were suffered by the slaves, but enough were weakened sufficiently to force them to hide (and drink beer) rather than die.

The slaves were now sufficiently drunk that the AP commander could send his LF to deliver personal insults to the faces of the drunken horde. Quite a number of the slaves took umbrage at the reference to parentage being influenced by hamsters and elderberries and so came down from the hills and started a ruckas - forcing Nelly to run away with severe bruising to her trunk. However, these isolated incursions were soon put to the sword and then defending ranks to the unruly mobs were becoming thin.

Buoyed on by success the AP foot charged the hill, by this stage the number of slaves armed and capable of fighting were too few and the slaughter of the slaves and their families began.

Soon it was over and the slaves were put to work bringing beer to the victorious AP army and bandaging Nelly's trunk.

A good time was had by all

As mentioned before, the Illyrians covered the map from one end to the other. Impassible terrain protected their flanks and some trees afforded protection to their right flank MF. The Gallic army consisted mostly of HF with mounted on their left and MF allies on the right. These managed to chew up everything in their path with relative ease. Only the wooded area offered real resistance. Towards the end, however, attrition started to wear down the Gallic HF line and autoroutes opened a wide hole there, but too late. The soldurii (who were mostly fresh) moved to plug the hole. Meanwhile, a chariot unit began to sack the enemy camp and as I recall, an Illyrian general fell.

Well done Morbio.

As L has had problems at work we have managed 7 turns in 15 days.

My centre has near enough been swept away while I have done something similar to L's left flank and of course some units from centres etc are beginning to get close to fighting.

The game will take some time though as our troops will spend a few turns moving into combat. Scores are me 48/83 vs L 69/81 but the gap will be closed over a number of turns I think.
