Thank you. I will copy your idea of using pigments. I have been thinking about it for a while and certainly it is the step that was lacking in my bases. I will try and some of the miniatures around here.

Thanks for answer and glad that you will try it.
I advise to experience a little bit before applying the pigments on the base.
If there are any open-end questions please feel free to ask :D

Actually it has been a while since I have been thinking about using pigments, in particular for my Afrika Korps. But using them also for the bases seems a very good idea. I will ask questions as the problems arise.
Thanks.

Ok, I have the first question regarding pigments. Do you use any to product to fix them onto the bases. After reading the description it does not seem that this is the case. Do you spray them to varnish or something so that they get stuck?
Thanks

No! The only thing i do is to put them on the base with your brush and then drybrush them in order to disperse the pigments on the base. The pigments remain in the valleys/gaps between the single grains of sand. On the place where you place them at first on the base pigments concentration is the highest so have to push them in any direction. So you get something like a pigment circle on your base with high concentration in the middle, lesser concentrations on the outside with a smooth crossing (?correct word?) to your ground base colour (in my case Scorched Brown). Maybe this is helpful for what i tried to explain..

Hi,

Thanks for this. I think basing is the most under-done thing on most reasonably painted wargames army. People paint up a bunch of reasonable figures... not even great paint jobs and then totally ruin it by just showering the figure in static grass.

Your approach of texture is very good.

I'm wondering though, where the foliage comes from? The flowers, weeds etc. That was what I was mostly after, and you just say 'put them on' but don't say how you do it or where you get them :).

Quite true. I have come to realize that basing is crucial for the general look of the miniatures. There is not much I can do with older armies, but I am trying with the newer ones. I might even use 20mm deep bases for the Romans to make them look better.

In fact, as he is German he has some advantage. It is a German company called MiniNatur, which produces that foliage. In Germany the price is reasonable, but in other countries it is expensive.

I have been trying to find it in Spain for months until I located a retailer in Madrid. The results are quite impressive and I just got a few of them. I really encourage you to go for it.

Yes, thats the company name. I buy them here: http://www.shop.battlefield-berlin.de/i ... natur.html

They are very reliable and ship worldwide! I use Summer, Spring and Autumn gras from MiniNatur in all sizes. As flowers i use "Blumen (violett)" MINA_998-24S.

You can glue them with your woodglue on the base.

Did i answer your questions?

Regards and thanks for critic

Thanks for the link. Actually I am going to Berlin for a few days and I will try to make some room to stand by and buy some of those. It is more than 25% cheaper than in Spain.
