Suggestion: Combat Results Box

Post by GBISSET »

Im actually using FOG digital to play miniatures, and I was wondering if it might be possible to have a toggle that gives moes an option for more detailed combat results. I hate staring at the screen and trying to guess who the floating numbers belong to! Of course this would be a toggle just for people like me who like details.

I would like the box to come up after each combat and display until I click or touch a key, then go to the next combat result. It would have which units (for extra credit list unit numbers) did what to who, and perhaps list more details further down the box for those who are curious as to how the heck that happened.

Thanks for a great game!

Are you aware of the detailed and verbose results displays? These are activated by CTRL-<letter> (I forget the letters) - see Keyboard Shortcuts in the help section for details.

The black display is scrollable with the mouse wheel if you put your mouse cursor over the black area.

Its not perfect, but it's better than nothing. :D

I wish the scroll history was larger or that it was possible to pause combat resolution during the opponent's turn, though. Often it happens that I'd like to have a look at some combat but I can't scroll up enough to see it. Anyone know a way to do it?

Youre right! Thanks! I actually play FOG alot, and I forgot those keys existed! So Ill modify my suggestion to be:

Put the toggle for detailed verbose results in the preferences section, where most players expect to see it,

Include the number of hits in the verbose results, so I dont have to look at 2 places at once.

Put in a toggle so that the results pause until clicked after each computer combat result!

It would be very good if the game generated a log file for combat results so that you could peruse them at leisure. Steel Panthers had an option to switch on such a log file and the detail was great - it helped one to understand the hows and whys of combat, and why a particular unit routed/evaporated/etc.

Cheers.

Try options and see if you can still slow the game speed down, might make it somewhat easier to read the results. It used to be an option back in the original beta days not sure if it still exists, might make it easier to read whats going on

We've been calling for something like this forever. In Tiller's games you have the option to whatch the enitre replay or have the game stop after each combat, require an OK to proceed. Is that so hard to do?

I must admit, the idea to pause, or even better rewind and reply, a combat move would be brilliant. It would make it so much better to understand what is happening and why.
