xls to cvs with Open Office

Post by junk2drive »

I found I can open the xls with OO and save as... a cvs with unicode 8.

1. I can't seem to get it to save all the tabs.

2. I can't copy and paste a line in the French tab.

I don't think Iain uses OO for editing - and I'm not sure how he has the tabs set up. There might be some incompatibilities between OO and how Office arranges things?

Dunno how much Iain will be able to check the forum as he's not connected constantly atm.

Cheers

Now that I have seen the columns I can add what I wanted to the end of the cvs and save to my campaign.

Since I was copy and paste and renaming it was easy. But if I wanted to get fancy I need to figure this out.

OO is fine for editing the CSV. Iain uses the XL sheet internally because he has that workflow. I'm sure he can explain how it works once he gets back.

I use OO for all my squads file editing - although it's generally only done for testing things out.

I open with OO and get a little window that doesn't make sense. On my umpteenth try, I selected Unicode 8 from the dropdown and clicked OK and bingo, I now have a spreadsheet.

IIRC it's asking what the delimiter is for the CSV - I don't recall ever doing anything other than hitting the OK button, but it might be that I set it up once way back and haven't needed to look at it since.

I just updated to OO 3.3 and the csv opened to an unreadable format. I tried again and found a new setup page that you have to check the box for Comma to get it to display properly. FYI

I made a change to my csv and now I get an error that there are " found in the csv.

Somehow saving the csv added this and I can't figure out how to get rid of it.

Whatever changed in OO 3.3 I can't get csv to save properly.

I found another freeware csv editor that looks nice and worked for me.
