What potential is there for co-op in Spartan multiplayer?

What potential is there for co-op in Spartan multiplayer?

Post by Redpossum »

I have been thinking about this since Anguille mentioned interest in multiplayer, and I don't really see much.

Can players trade goods? Can they make gifts to one another?

Unless MP play is significantly different from single-player, I don't see much potential for cooperative play at all...

Also, I read that only Spartan offers MP over the internet. I'm a bit confused by this.

I know you can play the Spartan scenarios through GoT, with the new game engine features that GoT offers.

But the reverse seems not to be true.

So does this mean that the GoT scenarios are not available for MP play over the internet?

For me coop multiplayer Spartan is like a joke.
Since you have to fight each battle with each other, you either have to fight well each time , which doesn't make sense trying to destroy your friend's army, or you are a traitor for the AI sides by letting their armies be destroyed.
I hope that in next games there will be an option to have the battles against the AI states, be fought against the AI.
Plato was right.

Both can be played over a LAN, but only Spartan can be played over the Internet. They were never designed as co-op games, so there are no features to support this. If we can get more of these features in for the future we will.

OK, thanks for the answer :)

Co-op can be cool, in its own way. It offers another different mode of play, and allows a fun game with two players of widely varying skill levels, which PvP does not.

I am not seriously suggesting that you go back and patch it in to Spartan/GoT. Obviously, you folks have moved on to newer projects.

But it doesn't seem like you'd have to add all that much to a game of this sort, just some slightly different diplomatic options, and the ability to trade/gift commodities to each other. If you could transfer troop units, now that would be very nice :)
