Shooting at Cavalry From The Flank

Post by atatnet »

Hi all
I am new to FoGAM and this is my first post here. After having played a few games, I find that non-firearm shooting is pretty ineffective generally. Fair enough if this is supposed to be historical.

My question is regarding shooting at cavalry from the flank. The POA for shooting at cavalry is either + or ++ and if the cavalry is not entirely 1 base deep. Cavalry more than 1 base deep is probably more dense and therefore more likely to suffer potential cohesion problems, hence the + or ++ POA. What about shooting at a long line of cavalry from the flank? Won't this have similar potential results as shooting from the front at cavalry which is more than 1 base deep ?

To illustrate this, consider a long single rank of cavalry in line formation. The arrows being shot from the cavalry's flank is more likely to cause more problems than arrows being shot from the front.

Comments would be much appreciated.

Its got to do with the tactics the cavalry are using. When 1 rank deep they are skirmishing like LH so represent a dispersed target

some cavalry take shooting at a zero POA if 2 deep - armoured shot at by bow, for example.

Re shooting being ineffective it depends what you are expecting. Shooting tends to get it's effect by cohesion tests rather than by removing bases. If you sctter your shooting against well armoured troops it's ineffective, but concentrate on a single target and even well armoured troops can be routed.
