Wherre are the early Romans?

Post by MasterChief81 »

I thought there was supposed to be an early Roman republic army list included in the RoR DAG. The Earliest I see is Middle Republic(late).

Based on the "trailer" that is what I assumed too but it appears the "early "list is the one in the basic FOG folder that is basically the same but with differnt allied options,.

In the DAG screen, before the RoR folder, there is a FoG folder, with two armies in it.

Just keep in mind that Penal Legions are the secret to a strong Republican Rome army. They should always constitute the bulk of your force.

Thanks to all for the responses. I found them and also noticed that in the RoR army lists that the Middle Republic Romans actualy cover a time period wide enough to incorporate early Roman Republic units.

Just curious as to why you consider Penal so important?

They're cheap & increase your number of BG's. Just need to keep them out of the way until opponent is weak. I do the same with the persian & sassanid armies - have a load of levies near my camp.

There will be earlier Romans (pre-Pyrrhus) included in the expansion corresponding to the TT Forgotten Scrolls lists. This was the last TT book released and will presumably be the last expansion. The TT book includes the earlier Republican Roman list covering the period of their expansion in Italy and their opponents from this period such as Etruscans and Samnites. In addition it includes other lists not included in the other TT lists that the authors felt deserved coverage.

How come neither list gets to take Numidian allies?

If true (I haven't checked), this sounds like a bug. Numidians should be available for the list which covers Zama at the end of the 2nd Punic War. They may have missed this option since that is roughly the break point they used between the two MRR lists. Probably should be posted as an error in the support forum.

Error posted in the support forum after verifying. There is obviously a missing MRR(Scipio in Africa) list ;-).

I like seeing my opponent's line crumble, and if more people rely on penal legions this will occur more often. Clear logic, my boy.

Stop saying that word, there might be ladies about. :)

BTW the Roman lists appear to be misnamed
The "late" Mid repubs (in ROR) have a list date of 280-203 bc and include Pergamene allies (which didnt exist in 280 bc)
The "early" mid repubs (in basic FOG) dated 202 bc to 105 bc
