I played Aaron as well

Mark was the one who got to play me once I had worked out a plan to beat loads of knight. I had a plan against Aaron but that needed the flank march which was a bit of a risky one and didn't pan out.

Was an enjoyable game where our initial combats all went against the odds.
I'm seeing the Protected Cav Bow Sw as a tactically viable troop type now especially with the proposed changes in FoG 2.0.

Did he turn into a rubber man again?

My prediction for the future............Elephants. As far as I know no Bg of Elephants was destroyed or routed in the entire tournament, and with all those knights and lancer cavalry they have potential.

That would also bode well for a longbow army then. Take out the knights and the elephants.

I use them all in time in my Mongol list they seem to work well against LH.....how did you do against the Hungarians?

Had a great comp myself despite being flushed throughout day three.

- only played one player I have ever played before
- played high quality games (4 of the top six finalists) only missing out on an encounter with the 2 ranking later serbians
- played some historical matchups (even a post latin conquest byzantine with my latin greeks)
- learning something in every game

The main mistakes for me were
- actively seeking combat where I even have a slight edge if there are other parts of the table where I have a significant edge.
- charging (Hammy's) prot superior bow sword with superior MF offensive spearmen just to stop them shooting at me.
- being super confident of seeing off enemy Knights charging my bg of 8 amulgvars - knowing they would be dragged into the rough at comform. (I disrupted at impact and it was all down hill from there)
- dont trade Bg for Bg if you have 12 Bgs adn your opponent has 18

The list is over-knighted so dropping one for 2 8s of amulgvars and 2 armoured cavalry would probably be better

Protected lancer cavalry are a real liability they are at - to shooting in depth but as soon as they thin out to decrease shooting poa the enemy can concentrate much more fire (for similar effect)

12 BGs
1*4 Dr knights
3*4 Undr kn
1*4 Dr Prot Av Cav lancers
3 Bgs of sundry LF skirmishers
catalan ally
1*8 and 1*6 amulgvars
1*4 Dr av xbow
1*4 JavLS

with this list I will certainly appreciate 2nd ed if it decreases LH ability to turn and move straight back to where they evaded from and minimising cavalry's turn and move ability

Sorry I encounted two elephant BGs. Only fought one and lancers up it front and back and they were soon demolished.

Sorry Dan, my original comment was a bit toungue in cheek, I didn't recall seeing any elephants, therefore they couldn't have been destroyed or routed.
Great skill there to get lancers behind them. Any I've used always charged the nearest target frontally, manouvering is for cowards.

Perhaps the 2012 IWF will be in Manchester. Was there a decision by the powers that be whilst in NZ? If so there may be more than 2 Manchester players there.

Manchester is always in the shade and usually the pooring rain too. And as to its FoG players being the densest I couldn’t possibly comment!!

Unlike that 'expensiving' Nottingham rain? Who were the denser Bob? I think its just that Nottingham is heading towards entropy at a faster rate.

Ah. Is that why you asked me earlier today which county Bob lived in

Incidentally, I believe the IWF is now a much smaller organisation than it was a few days ago.

Officially Hannu is now the president and I believe the IWF in 2012 will be in Greece. How many countries are still actively involved in the IWF now remains to be seen though..

I was at the IWF AGM but as my term of office was up a new president (Hannu) was elected.

The attendance at the meeting was not high with only South Africa, Australia and Finland represented. I believe Greece sent appologies. New Zealand has formally withdrawn, my understanding is that the USA withdrew sometime ago along with Ireland. The UK did not pay any membership so where things are with the UK membership I do not know.

There were bids from South Africa and Greece for the 2012 event and the present nations voted for Greece in 2012.

What is happening on the IWF mailing list at present I cannot say as I have now signed off from most of the IWF forums.

Well no one is going to support the IWF. The IWF ist kaput.

I have heard plans of international gamers to try and make a UK event the main one in 2012, Australia in 2013 and Germany in 2014. I'd put more faith in these notions than any rumors from the IWF.

Well that sort of schedule would suit me - must admit Athens does not appeal.
