Is this do-able?

Post by NotaPacifist »

I know we're all keenly waiting on the newest mod. But from what I've seen, changing weather patterns, changing joining dates, making officers cheaper, etc... won't really change the fundamental problem of this game. That problem is the supply system. It's too abstract. Sealion is so much easier in this game because once you take a single city, you have all you need to repair your units and provide them with mobility no matter the condition of your fleet. And this goes with all naval invasions/actions supported by sea supply.

Currently, once a city is taken, your surface fleet becomes superfluous. The RN becomes superfluous. This is why the Kriegsmarine told Hitler that a naval invasion of GB would be impossible. Sure, they could get troops ashore. But supplying and replenishing them would be an altogether different matter.

Would it be possible to build and place supply ships which would be programmed to follow these conditions:

1. Cannot be adjacent to land whilst providing supply.
2. Cannot be more than 5 hexes from units/port for which it will provide support.
3. Must be built and sailed a turn before the PP's you fill it with are available to the invading force for repair/supply enabling movement.
4. Be attackable by sea or air.
5. Have no defensive combat value and would have to suffer like unarmored vessels should.

Basically they would act somewhat like lend-lease convoys except be built by the attacking player. The attacking player could fill it with as many PP's as he could afford/desire. This would simulate the impressing of the nations merchant marine to support the invasion. This would also function in the Med. Benghazi, Tobruk, et al were just links in a chain. They never provided war materiele on a massive scale. There would have to be a size limit, but I'm not certain what that should be.

I think this would terminate some really crazy situations, and force invaders to use some forethought. It would also allow the RN a chance to play it's historical role as the protector of the British Isles.

Respectfully submitted.

This is kind of a neat idea. I like it a lot. The only problem is that most of the distances would be so small that it would take only one turn to move the supply convoy from its origin to the destination city and the enemy bombers and navy wouldn't have much of a chance to intercept the supply convoys, making it a kind of moot point to construct convoys and everything. Still I like the idea of adding a localized supply dimension to the game. Maybe it could be done some other way than using a convoy system?

One of the main points was that these convoys CANNOT be adjacent to land. But after further thought, there need to be two kinds. One kind that transfers from port to port in a non-combat situation (say Taranto to Tobruk for instance). Another that supplies the invaders and is ships at sea who are ferrying troops and supplies ashore. This makes defensive navy action a possibility. Otherwise, what good is the RN or the RAF at interdiction?

I have to say, it seems rather ahistorical when the entire RN becomes fugitives racing for Canada having not been able to lend a helping hand because the English Channel has been blocked by Three U-boats. Also, The Allies have little incentive for widescale sub use. Just build another DD in place. But if done this way, subs would actually have a chance at interdicting enemy supplies to their invasion front or their overseas front. You couldn't just magically wish 100pp's from Berlin to Jerusalem...you'd have to ship them...hopefully beforehand. Likewise from DC to Normandy.

anyone is still into this any help is greatly needed. Because of the coded logic with the AI. We all know that the AI ignores the med & Africa. Now I have heard that the UK will send units to these areas if it has enough PP- & feels there captial is not threaten.( I have never experienced this)

---So heres my question--
Why can't I remove one of UK's Captials and move it to Africa(Cario) when i try, save it and load it, its like i never even did anything at all.
I remove UK's CAP in Canada & try to move it to Africa. Nothing Happens---Any Ideas,if at all possible?
This is my only attempt to try to see if the UK will be more aggressive in Africa.

I know about the Primary Captial must be lower then the 2nd Captial if I.m right? Whoever thought of that idea?
I'm thinking maybe because its the owner ship & Nationality problem, since i can't change Nationality.

I posted this in the Modders spot in case thats dead.

So any help please we be gladly appreciated.

If this is not possible just reply NO.....thanks anyway!!
