medieval Danish army at 650 pionts

Post by will05 »

Hi
I am painting a medieval Danish army at 650 pionts for play on a 5 x 3 table.

This is what I have got:
FC
2x TC

4x Knights H arm Sup undrill Lancer/ swordsmen

Select levy ( I will have either 4x BG of 6 or 3x BG of 8 )
1/2 are HF arm average drilled HW
1/2 are MF arm average drilled Xbow swordsmen

German merc pike 12 x HF protected average drilled pikemen

2 x BG of 4 x CV arm average undrilled crossbow swordsmen

6 x LF unprotected drilled average firearm

The idea would be to use the pike and militia to pin to the front and break through if poss, knights to punch and mounted to support the knights.
Don't know if I should just have 1 BG of mounted X bow though and maybe more pike.
What are peoples thoughts.

Maybe my math is off, but you appear to be 2 points over. Drop 2 LF and make the other 4 protected.
You can use the cav to skirmish, falling back through the pike and levy. Tie them together with the LF for the firearm bonus to CTs
I'd go with 4 BGs of levy in 6's. Gives them more maneuverability, ability to concentrate fire. Pike in the center. Hand gunners out front. 2 BGs of levy either flank of the pike, with gaps to let the cav through. The knights in reserve for the coup de grace.

Ah ...yes
I had 1 of the select levy as undrilled to allow for the points. I prefer your idea of reducing the LF though.

I have painted the select levy and the knights, and I am starting on the German pike. I thought this would be a good time to make sure I wasn't making any big mistakes as it takes me months (even years) to paint an army, and I don't play much so lack experience.

I am not a big fan of crossbows, but with armoured and swordsmen capabilites I thought they should have a degree of sticking power.

So thanks for that and I will go with this army.

I played with it in September in a tourney(800pts) I have been quite happy with the army.. Ended up winning two out of three with them. First opponent was a seleucid type army and I lost.. Second was an army simular and won.. The last

opponent was an Arab conquest army.. A wall of Off spear.. And won. Granted the shooting is not the best vs foot... But mounted armies are going to hate you. As a 800 point army i took 2BGs of 8 pike. The wall of armored foot will really

dampen the shooting of your enemy, facing pike armies you will be even POA's with them... If you get the wall of pike broken up to unit by unit.. Your mixed BG's of 6 will be rolling more dice vs the 8 pike BG's... Your only down fall will be(for

the foot) is skilled swordsmen. Good luck! I think you will be happy with the army over all. :D

Thanks
I am painting the pike now and the the mounted cross bow.
Then there's the LF, but only 8 of them to paint.....

Still a daunting task!

Not sure for the 650 points.. But i took the mounted crossbow in two groups of 4 for a 800 point army... They do pretty good on flank protection for the knights on the flanks.
