Officers

Post by NotaPacifist »

Respectfully, many officers never see the light of day in this game. Who would buy a Budenny, right? But this is the kind of stuff political leaders had to deal with. Is it possible that we could consider not having to buy them? Instead, receiving them as reinforcements at a time near when they rose to Army command or higher? Just a few for-instances: Manstein wouldn't be available til September 41', Rommel until he takes over the Afrika Korps in Feb. 41, Montgomery until August 42', and Patton just before the date of Torch.

I feel it would add a lot more historical flavor to the game as well as allowing the player more freedom of purchase. As it is, they're so expensive that you're very torn between buying them or a fighting formation.

Thank you for your consideration.

Leaders are quite a bit different in GSv2.00. Specifically, (1) Range = Leadership - 2, (2) they cost less, (3) significantly more leaders added including at least one for every Commonwealth country (including India!), (4) a unit within range of multiple leaders gets the leadership benefit of the best leader, (5) leader gets wounded only when its parent unit is completely destroyed, (6) R&R times are shorter and (7) leaders attached to garrisons increase the movement by 1 (to 3).

Also, in GSv2.00 when you click on the unit that a leader is attached to the units under its command influence are highlighted. Brown indicates units that are only within the command range of that leader and purple indicates units that are within the command range of that leader and one or more other leaders. Units in purple get the leadership benefit of the best leader.

In a game that I'm currently playing as the axis it's January 1943. I have 11 German and 4 Italian leaders. Specifically,

German leaders: Eastern Front (8): Manstein, Guderain, Rundstedt, Rommel, Arnim, Reichenan, Dietrich, Bock. North Africa (1): Leeb. France (2): Paulus & Kleist.
Italian leaders: Eastern Front (2): Messe & Aosta. North Africa(1): Graziani. Balkans (1): Roatta.

By the way getting back to every UK Commonwealth country having at least one leader included, India's leader is Cariappa, who is the only leader in GS that was NOT a general in WW-II. In fact, I believe Cariappa never held rank higher than captain during the war. However; we thought it important to include him. Note that his leadership, which is 2 and has a range of 0, only extends to the unit to which he is attached.

Here's a list of commanders and their attributes for GSv2.00. By the way, including deGaulle in the list of American commanders must have him rolling over in his grave. :D

By the way, I thought I'd add a little flair to the list of commanders that I'm currently employing in one of my games as noted in two posts above. By the way, I left out one leader in that post and that was Guderian!!! So though January 1943 I've employed 11 German and 4 Italian commanders.

How is this for a change between GSv2.00a and GSv1.06/1.07? :D
