Shooting at artillery and their rear supports
On page 126 of the rules it says "..a BG in a position to give rear support to artillery is treated for all purposes as if its front edge was in the position of the front edge of the artillery, except that the files actually providing rear support cannot shoot." Does this mean that the supporting unit is a valid target for shooting which can just reach the artillery and does this also mean that the attacker can chose to shoot at either the artillery or its support (and change targets between these two from one turn to the next)?

Supplementary questions/comments. Does this also mean the supporting unit can charge measuring distance from the front edge of the artillery ? Do you have to consider the support is at the front edge when looking to see if divisional movement by other troops is messed up ( a BG behind artillery if considered at the front might be within a base width of a division, stopping divisional movement, when the artillery doesn't)?
I assume the answerr is yes to both.

The simple answer is that "for all purposes" means "for all purposes". Everything else follows from that.Maniakes wrote:Supplementary questions/comments. Is it an interpenetration if you are starting from the same place as the front of the artillery? (See Richard's slightly cryptic comment above!)hood_mick wrote:On your first point of charging. I would say you cannot charge as there are no interpenetrations allowed during a charge. But on your second (divisonal movement) I would say you are right.
