I will setup our game when i get home from work. Don't think that I have anything on tonight so should get some good FOGing in. A Pyrrhic Civil War (fought on the Italian mainland) should be fun. Have you noticed that 650 points gets you almost all our allowed troops? So no surprises in selection. It will come down to sheer luck ... err. i mean skill and generalship, or something

PS. Don't forget the usual England to Oz time-warp, so this game could take some time ....
I look forward to the clash of pikes. Yup, I noticed what 650 points does for the army list.... but, to quote Baldrick, "I have a cunning plan!".... and I'll probably have Baldrick's success too! :)

Here's the correct match lineup... I copied the sequence from Davouthojo's PM, not the names, unfortunately the last 2 armies were out of sequence! This means the previous post was incorrect for Alexander's armies. This is the correct list. Please accept my apologies for any confusion

Alexander vs Hannibal
Match 1 (Very Open): Ptolemaic (Greek) Davouthojo vs Ptolemaic (Greek) IanIOW
Match 2 (Open): Pyrrhic (In Italy) Claymore v Pyrrhic (In Italy) Morbio
Match 3 (Mixed): Later Carthage (post 235 BC) Pantherboy v Later Carthage (post 235 BC) Triarius
Match 4 (Open): Mid-Republican Roman IanDavidSmith v Mid-Republican Roman Steve-H8
Match 5 (Very Open): Suren Indo-Parthian Cheahn v Suren Indo-Parthian Ericdoman1

Pyrrhus vs Caesar
Match 1 (Very Open): Suren Indo-Parthian Petran1978 vs Mid-Republican Roman Blathergut
Match 2 (Open): Pyrrhic (In Italy) TheKraken vs Suren Indo-Parthian BatesMotel
Match 3 (Mixed): Later Carthage (post 235 BC) Hidde v Later Carthage (post 235 BC) TheGrayMouser
Match 4 (Open): Ptolemaic (Greek) Lysimachos v Ptolemaic (Greek) Deeter
Match 5 (Very Open): Mid-Republican Roman Tofman04 v Pyrrhic (In Italy) Deadtorius

Please start your games ASAP (don't forget to select the appropriate terrain!) and try to complete in the next couple of weeks, if you can't manage that then no worries. Please post results on this forum.

It would be great if players could post intermediate scores and match commentaries, then we can simulate the Ryder Cup effect of seeing how the matches are shaping up as it happens. I know in the UK there is generally excitement as you see how many matches Europe are up or down in and how far the matches have progressed. This is purely optional, but it may add to the excitement.

Good luck to all, have fun!

Go Hannibal, go Hannibal, go Hannibal! :P

Our legionaries are eager to fight your so called army, you treacherous greeks. Retreat now or you'll be thrown in the sea.
Italian land is for us.
So your hopes are for a "Pyrrhic Victory". You will fill our steel blades taste.

The civil war erupted in Ptolemaic Egypt is tearing apart the country and my faction has taken the field to preserve the heritage of our founder, but our opponents, led by Dyteros, are evading every move made to intercept them, probably fearing the outcome of the following battle!
How long will we have to wait until our enemies will dare to fight? :x

Action so far

Winning initiative not good in most games but even moreso againsta very good player.

The map is the one with the large hill running from the centre to my right and with steep edges, open plain on my left some open plain to my right.

Having won the inititive Nik advances and takes most of the hill. Even catapharcts have difficulty in shifting LF on top of a steep hill.

On my left I position the Saka ally contingent but as I am to face most of Nik's true cataphracts I end up having to march away, otherwise I will be pushed off table and now the shooting begins, generally equal down the line and then I decide to charge some lf lt spear into his lf archers, ok on impact, not looking forward to the combat though.

I will imagine all of these cup games are going to be cagey affairs, especially when armies are the same.

Even so come on you Brits. Us against the ROTW, deja-vu?

Cheers

I lost initiative and didn't move.

The map was so bad I didn't see the point in moving. Something really has to be done about the standard of some of the maps. We have 2 Pike-heavy armies (Pyrrhic in Italy) in an 'Open' map and there is a forest and marshes runing across the centre of the map and another in the bottom (my side) of the map. I really can't be bothered to follow the 'S' of the open ground to close with the enemy.

The Rest of the World Pyrrhic's decided to set up in a swamp. And built a castle. which sank into the swamp. Built a second one. that burn down ... then sank into the swamp. But the third remains! The sight of a castle rising out of a forested marsh-land (so called "open" terrain) caused the Brit Pyrrhic s to freeze in terror

This is going to be a strange game ....

I am so hoping when we see Legions Triumphant that the terrain curse has been properly fixed. As it is now, with the maps that the game has to choose from, it completely ruins it far too many times.

Surely there will be an option to allow players to specify the exact number of hexes of each type of terrain? Even to place it, much like a table-top game? In the meantime, we will make do with the rumble of a grumble :)

Claymore Wines

I'm not in the habit of spamming, but a work associate just sent me this link: http://www.claymorewines.com.au/index.html
Claymore Wines! I wish that I had thought of it. And the wine is named after Classic Rock albums. How cool is that? I'm ordering a case of "Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz"
