Hits per base on Battle wagons

Post by Petefloro »

I'm going to have a go at using battle wagons in a Later Hungarian army.(Fool, I hear some FoG players say!)

Have I got the following right?

Each long Battle wagon base counts as two single bases and for Hits per Base calculation each single base counts as two bases.

So, a BG of two long based battle wagons will have 8 bases for Hits Per Base purposes and therefore require 3 hits (or more) inflicted on it from shooting.

If the BG looses a death roll (say, 3 hits and throws a 1) it will loose a long base.Since they are average quality they will auto break immediately.

At the end of the shooting phase the other remaining battle wagon base is removed because BGs of battle wagons & artillery don't take a rout move - they are destroyed on the spot.

I know there have been threads in the past about battle wagons, but I couldn't find any thing to confirm the Hits per Base reckoning.

So apologies if it has been covered before.

No, each one does not count as two single bases. Each base counts as two for HPB. So a BG of two Battle Wagons counts as 4 bases for HPB.

They get +1 on the death roll so would need 4 hits from shooting to lose a base on a death roll of 1.

But a death roll from shooting it's a +2, surely.

Also, in the Combat Mechanism chapter it mentions treating battle wagons as two single bases side by side. And in the FAQ as well.So that's where I got the 4 bases(2X2 for HPB) thing from, giving a 2X long base BG of battle wagons 8 bases for HPB reckoning.

If that was how it was done for Hits per Base, the battle wagons would survive a bit longer and by all accounts they could co with it :)

Oh well thanks for the reply.

IIRC BWg get an extra plus one on death rolls like elephants

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!

OK.So both lines of pluses apply to the death roll, giving +3!

For some reason I've always thought the +1 was for use in the close combat rounds only

I've never used nellies or battle wagons before so missed that.

I suppose that improves the resilience of battle wagons a bit then :)

Thanks

But not nearly enough when you actually use them
