Cossack mixed Musket and HW BGs - what's their purpose?

In Clash of Empires, Page 73 Cossack list, from 1650 the mixed formation cossacks infantry have the option to switch from Musket/Pike BGs to Musket/HW BGs. Can anyone suggest why they would want to? I can't think of any advantage. Am I missing something?

Heavy Weapon HF provides protection for Shot. If you check the POA tables you will see they have something to offer against some opponents.

They are in the list because they existed historically. No other reason is required.

You are right, I had read Pike HF but you are right it is not there. Looking at it again, I can see the benefit. Might give that a run.
