One experience point??

Post by glen55 »

I am well into the Celtic campaign and suddenly over the last few battles several of my units in each battle have received only one experience point for the battle. Most distressing is the fact that my leader has only gotten 1 xp per battle for several battles in a row, despite the fact that I made sure my leader was in the front lines once I saw that this had happened after a battle. Since my commander had gotten slightly behind in choosing leader promotion skills instead of combat promotion skills, his getting frozen at his current level (level 18) creates quite a problem for me in managing my entire army.

Does anyone know what's going on? Is there a level cap in the Celtic campaign or something?

BTW, this is my first post and I LOVE this game. I was extremely impressed with Rome:Total War's ability to stage meaningful battles where the player had sufficient and realistic control and have the battles not be so time-consuming, but I must say that Arena's battle system beats the tar out of RTW's system. It's just terrific to be able to fiddle with my units RPG-style between the battles, and the fact that the short battles means I get to do more fiddling makes it even better. HOWEVER--the brilliant system that allows players to practice realistic command skills and make realistic battle management decisions in the context of a quicky battle cries out for a realistic campaign level.

Great - glad you like it :)

The problem may be that your opponents are too weak compared to you. The xp you get depends on your level compared to theirs. Get too high above them and you'll get nothing. Better units have higher base values so a level 1 Legionary is worth more than a level 1 peasant.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. It's extremely valuable to be able to put this in context.

But I have a follow-up question: were the opponents in the Roman campaign so powerful that this just didn't apply? I got my leader up to something like level 55 in that campaign and never noticed anyone only getting 1 xp.
