In which phase does this fragmented BG rout?

Post by Petefloro »

In the JAP a cavalier BG is pursuing a routing P&S BG.

The cavaliers contact a fragged enemy horse BG in the flank.

The enemy horse take a CT and pass, so they stand and receive the charge in their flank - dropping down to broken.

I know that fragged BGs failing a CT test when charged or hit by pursuers rout immediately in any phase.

But if the enemy horse weren't fragged, the contact with the pursuing cavaliers in the JAP would be resolved as a charge in the next impact phase.

So, do the broken enemy horse rout immediately as a result of being charged in the flank by pursuers or do they rout at the end of the next impact phase?

See page 141, column 2, bullet 1, which in brief says Fragmented troops who would be contacted by pursuers in any phase and fail their immediate cohesion test then rout immediately before pursuers move.

Conceptually, the Joint Action Phase is where to look for rout/pursuit core rules and related issues, with some special initial rout rules located in the combat mechanism section.

Haven't checked the rules, but as the contact counts as a charge in the next Impact phase I'd say they break in that next Impact phase.

I'd say they break in that next Impact phase.
That's what I reckon as well.

Thanks for the replies.
