How does terrain get placed under these rules? Will I find that there is always a large area of empty space like there is in DBM, making rough terrain armiies useless? Will there be secret ambushes? It's fine to encourage balanced armies, but the armies that work better in difficult terrain should have a chance.

I understand what you are saying to parts, but i do think that there will be places for light infantry and such to have a major advantage, and yes i think there should be secret ambushes, but idk if they will put that in there, i have seen a few times in which rough terrain, when used correctly, has given the advantage and won a few of the games, but idk what the properties are, hope you get helped out by this and others will help you out more than me ;)

The terrain system is designed to give good variety and decent chances for open terrain and rough terrain armies.
