So this means the fall of the Roman empire was not due to the change from impact foot to light spear or the change in the shape of the shield. I don't believe it. Surely the rise and fall of any super power is purely down to how good they are on the battlefield.

If this is true it means that lesser nations could actually have quite decent armies. How ridiculous.
