Unit image request

One good aspect of FOG is the attention it pays to historical details. That said, it is sometimes lacking; one example of this is the Spartan army list.

Why no pilos helmets? There seems to be agreement that the Spartan army made very extensive use of the pilos helmet from the 5th century onwards. It would be great if this were reflected in the "Later Spartan" army list. It is simply not realistic to have them all wearing crested corinthian helmets. Having them don pilos helmets instead would help to give some character to the later spartan army hoplites that would visually distinguish them from the earlier Spartan army list. Right now the two look almost identical; at any rate the pilos helmet looks pretty unique and deserves to be in the game given how well attested its use is in Lakonia.

As for sources, I know FOG has a relationship with Osprey. Osprey's little booklet on Hoplites says that Spartans used the pilos helmet, and the illustrations show the spartans in the 4th century all using that helmet, exept the leaders who have some sort of crested helmet (which is what everybody has now). Given that all the hoplites look identical except for the colour scheme and pose, the distinction would be much appreciated and would increase the historical accuracy. Primary sources also say the Spartans wore pilos helmets; I guess I would just cite Thucydides, but honestly I don't have a database of pilos-related citations.

To implement, I suppose one would need to make at least two new unit images.

It might simply be that there aren't any miniatures with said helmet.
Unit images are all miniatures photographed for the game, so without a miniature, no unit.
I've got two words for ya: Math is hard.

Maybe, but a quick search reveals that there are a lot of Spartan miniatures with pilos helmets.

I found more, but the second link is from a company in Europe which is where Slitherine is, and the link displays hoplites with a number of different helmets. That means diversity is both local and available. One of them has a Boeotian helmet, which should be on the cavalry in FOG but I don't recall ever seeing it.

I doubt Slitherine would scour all miniature sites and then order and paint said miniatures. Usually it is more who has and take those. I think they've done quite well for the most part to give a good feel for 95% of the troop types.

Oh sure, it is good for the most part. This thread isn't trying to damn the game as a whole; I like Field of Glory and it pays more attention to history than the majority of games I've played.

I just want to see pilos helms on the Spartans, though, because it's well attested and would give some nice, visual diversity between the armoured Spartans and the protected Spartans.
