Title for Rules
Its make up our mind time. Art of War has been the working title for the rules since the start. We now have to confirm this or select a better title.
So if you have any ideas post it here for consideration. If we decide to use your suggestion there will be a Slitherine Computer game as a prize.
Best Regards

Well, you could always use "Ars Belli," which is Latin for "Art of War." I have been using that nickname on TMP and other wargaming discussion fora since 2002, but I wouldn't mind if you borrowed it.
In all seriousness, I would be honored if you ultimately decided to use it for the title, and I would also be willing to create a different online nickname for myself if you did.
Other possibilities that come to mind are: "Ancient Battle Lines" or "Imperator." I imagine that my fellow forum members will come up with many other, more creative titles.
Cheers,
Scott K.

Please, please, please don't give the rules a latin name, nothing puts the punters off more, they'll associate it with that other set of rules, or with the Catholic church. No Greek either.ars_belli wrote:Well, you could always use "Ars Belli," which is Latin for "Art of War." Any title should use the vernacular, I think "The Art of War" is perfectly fine, but someone might have a better idea.
The problem with "Art of War" is that there is an existing set of ancient-era miniatures rules already bearing that title, along with a WAB supplement - not to mention the famous ancient work by Sun Tzu (Sunzi). Surely we can put our minds together and come up with something just as catchy, but a bit more original!goofaholix wrote:Any title should use the vernacular, I think "The Art of War" is perfectly fine, but someone might have a better idea.

Well, that eliminates around the 90% of spanish words and aroung 50% of english words, I fear.goofaholix wrote: Please, please, please don't give the rules a latin name, nothing puts the punters off more, they'll associate it with that other set of rules, or with the Catholic church. I see an advantage on classic languages: no translation is required. "El arte de la guerra" seems not so interesting in my language, and makes me think on Sung Tze??s book, not in a wargame (yet).
I also like single word titles.

I think "Bad Men with Sharp Sticks" is the suggested title, or for those latin lovers among us "Badus Menus withus Sharpus Sticksus".larrydunn wrote:If you are suggesting that my proposed titles are stupid, why don't you give it a go and come up with some better?babyshark wrote:Bad Men with Sharp Sticks?larrydunn wrote:Some suggestions:

One game as the prize for providing the biggest marketing tool for your new rules? I want an invite into the beta if you use any of my suggestions, please. And I love naming things so I'll be posting as many ideas as I can muster.
Here goes:
Warriors of Reknown
Great Armies, Great Men
Men of War
Field of Battle
The Shape of War
The First Wars of Men
Masters of Conquest
Battles of the Ancient World ( and the campaign supplement would be called "Campaigns of the Ancient World")

"Rules of Battle"
More accurate than Art of War since the game isn't aimed at representing the totality of war, just one aspect.
This title more accurately describes what the product is; i.e. it is rules for how to fight a battle. One could add a date range (3000 BC to 1500 AD) in case people think this includes ACW or the like.
Other benefits:
Some people will like having a game named after them: "RoB"

Banning Latin Greek Words maybe not such a good idea given the popularity of DBA, DBM, DBR, and other rulesets with Greco-Latin names! I have a long list, so I thought i throw in some silly ones to make reading it a little less boring....
