Musket / Pike Ratio

Post by guthroth »

Hi

When trying to reproduce historical actons, how is it best to do this ?

For example, the excellent ECW battle scenario books available from Caliver list unit strengths and musket to pike ratios. These can range from 2:3 to 3:1 in the same engagement and only using musket or musket* doesn't really give enough scope.

How does anyone else deal with this ?

Would making the musket section of a mixed BG 'Superior' for fire purposes only be too big a step up ?

For the lower ratios of pike/musket- you can use Musket*. For the higher ratio of muskets to pike, delete a pike and replace with a musket, or add muskets.

Years ago I wrote my own set of ECW rules and had to face the same ratio problem.

I had been strugling with the same issue myself so thanks for the ideas. I had been trying with giving the higher ration shot units an extra dice in musketry and the lower an extra dice in melee but your system is better.
