5.01 Some Questions

Post by plewis66 »

These are a few comments on having read the first half of the rules a few times.

Firstly, stunning job. The new organisaion makes loads of sense, and makes finding tings so much easier. I love the new initial section with details of a wo rmies and a run through of some gameplay, a very nice lead in to the rules indeed.

Now just one or two points:

1) Page 22, box out, 'Second moves', third bullet could be read to imply that second moves are permitted so long as the general was with the BG/L at the start of the phase. If this is not intentional, it may be worth adding something like 'and must stay with the BG/BL for the entire phase'.

2) Might be worth mentioning that even though generals are specfied as having a troop type in the army lists, they are exempt from the restrictions for forming BLs? Perhaps as another point in 'A battle Line cannot comine foot and mounted troops except:'.

3) Might I be so bold as to suggest an alternate phrasing for p23 'Turning 90 Degrees' bullet 1: 'Battle groups making a 90-degree turn end in a block whose width is 1 base for each base width, or part thereof, of the original depth of the formation, or 1 less...' This avoids the phrase 'partial base width depth, that still trips me up every time I read it.

4) p23 Turning 180 Degrees - Some clarification on how the turn is made, specifically with reference to mixed battle groups and those with a smaller rear rank.

5) p28, last bullet. I can't quite get what this is saying. It seems to imply that if you make a charge onto a flank, that does not qualify as a flank charge, then you magically whip round to the front of the charged battle group? Surely it makes more sense to turn the charge battlegroup through 90 degrees? What am I missing here?

6) p29. With reference to an earlier question of mine, it seems that an intercepting BG can intercept up to is the limit of its ZOI, even if this takes it through terrain where its move could be considerably less than this. And:

7) p93 'Charge Range' - What is meant by 'normal move distance'? It could be read that movement in 'open' is the norm, and this is modified depending on terrain, or it could be read to mean 'normal move distance, given the current terrain'. I'm still not sure if Cavalry can charge 5MU in broken ground!?

Well, I've got to page 50 three times, now and those are the only points that cause me any confusion. I'll start from page 50 onwards now!
