Augmented Terrain Movement Chart

Post by _Augustus_ »

Happy holidays everyone,

Here's an augmented movement point cost chart for terrain. When I started to play the game there were some oddities regards movement that couldn't be explained the chart in the manual. The number of movement points MECs had, MPs required to enter a hex in the chart and how much MECs could actually move in the game just didn't add up in every situation.

I learned what seemed to be "oddities in the movement" the hardway. I guess many others have done the same. Leared that a MEC with 5 movement points can move a muddy forest hex and a muddy clear hex while ARM with 6 movement points can't move into the muddy clear hex after the muddy forest hex the hard way. And some other "weird" allowed moves. The numbers just didn't add up using the chart. Which was very frustrating when trying to learn the game and trying to plan out what moves to make and what moves the enemy would be able to perform in the following turn.

Sometime ago ncali pointed out that actually MEC and ARM use different movement penalties in bad weather contrary to the chart. Presto! All the numbers added up finally. Big thanks to him.

While I had learned the "oddities" by heart by now I "wasted" a lot time trying to figure out what was going on over the many months. May the following be my Christmas present to any new player that might stumble on this thread wondering about the same issues I did. Who knows maybe the chart is usefull for some older hands who haven't realized the local tactical advantage due the better maneuverabilty you can have with MECs over ARMs in certain situations in bad weather, too.

Contraty to manual's chart I decided to enter MP totals required to enter a hex for vehicles rather than enter the extra MP cost for vehicles. MEC and ARM are still lumped together where their MP cost is the same in the gameplay. While at it I added ZOC samples that might be useful refresments when you need to pay the +2 and note on units not adjacent to the enemy.
