Unable to install FoG from disk

Post by jtwining »

I Purchased Field of Glory and FoG-Immortal Fire as downloads with hard copies of each on disk. I tried downloading FoG from the web but the download did not complete due to IPS capacity restrictions.
When the disks arrived, I tried installing FoG from the disk. However, the install didn't start. I tried displaying the programs on the disk and clicking on the install pgm, but nothing happened. I then tried copying the disk contents to my C: drive and running the install from there. However, other than seeing a DOS command prompt box for a split second, nothing happened.
My OS is Windows Vista. The versionof FoG appears to be 1.3.3.

Sorry you are having problems. What is the file size on the disk and what is the file name?

The disk file size is 572MB. There are two folders; Field of Glory and Images. There are also four files: autorun.inf, Autorun_CCD.exe, index_e.html and StartHere.html.

When I purchased the download version of FoG (and Immortal Fire,) there was an option to have backups disks of the files sent for the cost of shipping. I clicked on the option.
The disks were sent by a company called PLIMUS.

I contacted Plimus (the company in the US that cut and shipped the disk(?). However, they said that they weren't able to help me with this problem.

Thanks for the info - they've set the CD up diffferently to the files we supplied which is why its a bit confusing. Not sure why they have done that.... anyway. Can you tell me the file size of the autorun exe file (tell me the exact number of bytes by right clicking and looking at properties -> "Size"). What makes you think it is v1.3.3 - does the installer do anythign at allo when you run it?

The file named Autorun_CCD.exe shows as 300KB.
The FoG file, which is 571MB, is named field_of_glory_1.3.3.exe.
When I click on the Autorun exe file it opens the PLIMUS title screen. There's a button that's labeled "install now".
When I click on the button I see a brief flash of a command prompt window that disappears almost at once, but nothing else happens.

Can you try running the Field of glory exe directly instead of the autorun program and see what happens?

I tried running the field of glory.exe file. A dos command window opened briefly, then closed again. Nothing else happens after that. I repeated the attempt several times with the same result.

It should not open a DOS box for any reason. What are the specs of your PC? Maybe there is some hardware issue or conflict.
