Generals

Post by stevesykes »

I gather from reading the game reports that there are different types of general; what isn't clear is whether a general has control of a specific set of BGs, in the way that in DBM a general controls a command or whether a general can exert an influence over any BG.

Generals can exert influence over any troops "in line of command". C-in-C and Sub-generals can influence any troops except those in allied contingents. Ally generals can only influence troops in their own contingent.

The army lists represent tribal or city state coalitions as a collection of allied commands. However, unlike certain other rules, allied commands do not become unreliable. We find, in practice, that being restricted to the sole influence of one general is handicap enough.

In practice generals tend not to roam about much beyond their original assigned part of the battle line. It just isn't practical to do so.

Can Generals restore levels of Cohesion to Troops if neither are in melee or being shot at? Or only to Rally broken BG's?

Generals in line of command can join battle groups between bounds to "bolster" them - i.e. Raise their Cohesion Level 1 level by passing a Cohesion Test - but only if they did not drop a cohesion level in the immediately preceding bound.
