Volunteers for mini speed FoG tournament this evening

Post by IainMcNeil »

Hi guys

we're looking for up to 16 volunteers to take part in a speed tournament this evening. This is a 2 round competition with 1 hour per round so we're using very small maps. Round 1 starts at 8pm GMT. Round 2 starts at 9pm GMT so in total its a 2 hour tournament. Don't worry if you don't finish your games as this is an important part of what we are testing though it would be good if some did finish.

The aim is to test out the new tournament scoring system, better dealing with games that did not complete and better handling of drop out or no shows. We need at least 4 for the test to go ahead so please join if you can spare a little time.

If all goes well we're hoping to run a release tournament over the Holidays.

To take part you need to download the beta update. We reccomend you make a copy of the your Field of Glory folder and only update the copy, saving your full version untouched. The beta version will only be able to see games on the beta server so you wont be able to play your existing games with the beta version. The beta vgersion will expire in a couple of weeks (another reason to make sure you make a copy and use that not your main version). The beta is only available on PC. Once you have completed the beta you can delete your beta version.

To download the beta version
* Press the ` key, at the top left of your keyboard to get the command window to pop up.
* Type "update-source tourney".
* Click check for updates and you will install the 1.4.1 beta tournament update.

To join the tournament click the join button at http://www.slitherine.com/tournaments_test/fog_pc

Now when you runn the game you'll be on the test server and only able to play your tournament games.

I'll join as a future no-show tester, as most probably I won't have time to play at all.

Bit of a short notice, wasn't it? ;)

I understand that this is a fast run to test for specific things in the engine, but trying to get 4-16 players in 2½ hours during the day is cutting it pretty close.
Ah well, looking forward to the Holiday Tourney :)

Yep we'll retry tomorrow. Didn't have things set up till this afternoon so wanted to see if we could get it tested tonight.

If you missed it today we'll reset it and let people join tomorrow.
