Testing not to charge

Post by hazelbark »

This came up last night and IIRC the rules are silent.

A unit has to test to not charge through friendlies.
An IC is in range.

The player actually wants the unit to burst through his friends. (don't ever want to be in his army)

Do he have to apply the IC modifer of +2 to not charge? Or can before he rolls dcalre he is not counting it?

I think nothing in the rules suggest you can choose to not count it.

I think this came up before, and the consensus was the bonus applies, like it or not.

That's my recollection too, but memory hazy.

Look at bottom of 58 and top of 59. "...a player cannot choose to allow his shock troops to burst through in this way, they can only do so if they fail their CMT..." I like the way they wrote these rules, nothing is optional except a few specified things.

Yes, you have to apply the bonus for generals in range. If you want them to charge through friendlies you should move the general out of range in the JAP if possible.

guess you have to be sure the big guy is not looking if you want your rabid boys to charge through your own troops.

The rules simply say that the modifiers apply. If they were optional you could choose to not apply negative modifiers too.

Very good simple way to say it.
