Our next game, at 700pts in 25mm, is going to be restricted to 1642. (I may regret suggesting it!)

All my horse is poor carbine/ /pistol.
Three pike/shot BGs are poor.

But I will get my cuirassiers.

With their commanded shot.

And their freshly painted personal commanders!

The dragoons will actually be some of the "elite troops!"

It's in a couple weeks so perhaps we'll have enough painted up to take photos. We are getting close to that point.

Any suggestions from out there in the beyond for how to manage such an early "inexperienced" Parliamentarian force?

I suggest you stick white flags in their hands and get them to wear nice bulls eyes on their chests. Also begin to practice the fine art of rolling 1's that I seem to have mastered, then just get used to how far they will run and let the poodle run amok among your routers..... I mean army.

Yes, I have noticed my musketry dice have suffered in recent games.

It's not my musketry dice its his bloody death rolls, I once hammered him for 5 hits and the bugger rolls a 6 for death roll then laughs at me for my misfortune. Charged 3 of his units that were all 2 base battle groups in a nice row, cuirassier commanded shot cuirassier. I hit with all 6 dice in impact and won each impact, he rolls better than 2 on each death roll and rolls nice high numbers for cohesion...... Rolls to shoot my cavaliers with his silly carbines, hits me with one die and you guessed it I roll a 1 for death roll. Get my 2 Dragoons to take on his single Dragoon unit at close range, he has to split his dice one die and two dice, still manages to out shoot my two units and one of them breaks and the other goes fragged..... No wonder the Poodle has not managed to win more than a single game so far

This view point depends on which side is writing the history.

In an attempt at psychological warfare I am pleased to announce that Talbots boys, and their poodle proud flag which sports a Talbot canine upon it, have been painted to completion and have joined the Royalist ranks. May the proud poodle standard cause the Parliamentarians to fall under the shadow of despair and the curse of die rolls of 1.
Also new to the line up is my Covenanter Generals stand comprising an appropriately dour minister (the actual general) and his bodyguard of armoured Haldberdier and armoured ensign. If that does not bring in some divine intervention I am not sure what else will work. And yes I know that Ministers did not lead as generals of the army, but he came in Warlords Scots Battalia starter army box and it was just too tempting to not make him a general

I think I should invest in a poodle mark III, if it doesnt bite him perhaps all the shed poodle hair will distract him. next battle is 1643, hello superior cavalry

Place part of your cavalry in behind your foot and get some musketry to hit them on the way in. As the Royalist cavaliers hit if you hold them ( in your dreams) you can feed reserves into the melee in the flank and wear them down. If your horse run your opponant chases them while your remaining horse can hit the enemy foot from flank and rear as your foot take them head on or rip into his arty. Well thats the theory anyway and lets face it it worked at Edge Hill. You cant generally stop Royalist horse BUT neither can their commanders. They were often historically a one shot weapon.

So far our cav vs cav battles have tended to turn into very long drawn out affairs, with neither side often getting any advantage for several turns often not even before the battle is over. Contrary to popular opinion my cavaliers have ended up getting stuck slugging it out with the Parliamentarian cuirassiers and commanded shot or their cavalry and it is the infantry bash in the center that decides who wins. Last game Blathergut broke with tradition and sent the better part of his cav up the middle, using his carbines to shoot up my foot with other foot units in support on both sides. If I had not rolled so many 1's it might have gone differently and I might have even managed to stand and face him successfully. That was the only time our cavalry proved decisive in any of our games.
