Fantastic news!

In addition to buying the Strategic WWII game you are making, I am going to buy this one as well....

I'm going out and buying a PS2 for this puppy.

When will it be released?

Keep making these types of games and you will get my money... :)

While very excited about GBR, I am trying to control my enthusiasm because the game will be ported to consoles. I have rarely, if ever, seen a good PC strategy/wargame that was playable on PC and consoles. Consoles seem to poison whatever they touch. Time will tell.

Not to worry.

If the interface is similar to Legion Arena, and I'm willing to bet it is, I don't see much problem porting it to a console.

In hindsight... it was such a logical progression...

I usually take a wait and see attitude with games and I will with GBR. I do like the subject very much. I just always become gripped with fear when I read that a strategy/wargame will also be available on consoles. Looking forward to learning more about the game.

Will each scenario/battle be played in isolation i.e. a set piece battle, or are they linked as in Legion Arena?

Hi Guys,

Just a quick query: have you ever heard of Rome: Total War?? It's just it seems very much like you've plagiarised it completely, so surely you must have?

Oh sorry.. I mean - nice original idea guys! *cough*ripoff*cough*

But seriously though, I have noticed one significant difference: this game is probably going to ** Admin deleted due to unsuitable content **!

Sadly your knowledge of the games industry seems to be greatly lacking. I hope you make up for it in other areas ;). We created the original Legion in 2000, years before Rome Total War. Having said that, just because we did a game on Rome doesn't mean nobody else can - or are you suggesting we shoudl sue Creative Assembly for breach of copyright!

However as this is our forum I don't need to explain myself to you :) This is very similar to the "Creative Assembly are gonna sue your ass" comment we had when we created Legion Arena from a similar uneducated fool. If you can see the game is going to be bad from just an announcement, without seeing how it looks or plays, then you are truly a gaming god. I didn't realise CA had made an epic strategy game for the PS2 and PSP market already - I must have missed that one :)

Next time try some research as this mindless babling is a waste of everyones time - even yours!

Feel free to comment in any way but the use of bad language will not be tolerated and for this you have been banned.

Thanks for the comments guys. The main drive are the PS2 and PSP versions, which have a totally new UI system designed specially for the console systems to allow you to control big 3D batles without a mouse. There is nothing like this out there right now so its very exciting. The PC version is really Legion Arena with extra bells and whistles. There are new features like scouts & ambushes, a completely new look and streamlined user interface and all the great History Channel content, new music tracks - all in all a really immersive experience. However the basic game underneath will be very familiar if you have played LA. The idea is really to reach out to new customers with this rather than resell to people who already have LA. Having said that I think it's worth it for the movies alone - they are so cool! LA was never properly released in North America and this is the main reason we have a PC version.

Congratulations to this deal...

Seems your aiming at a very large audience now!

Not sure if i'll buy the game again as i've already Legion Arena twice...but i guess that in the end i will anyway...

First i thought that it was the game by Haemimont (called Imperium: Great battles of Rome) finally released in english.

What scenarios are in the game (roman and the gauls)?

PS: the links in the main page (slitherine.com) still lead to Arcane Legions!

PS: Iain...you should take the troll and put him in Arcane Legions...i'll happily launch my arrows on him!

Well spotted - links fixed.

I wanted to make it really clear what people would be getting from the PC version. We don't want to stich up the fans and con them in to getting THC GBoR if they already have LA, unless they feel the changes and additions are enough. It's really important to us that we keep you guys happy!

Sucky Game

Post by fucktard_returns »

Hello Again,

Thanks for banning me, don't really appreciate that since the language I used was hardly that harsh. I shall use the term "Donkey Testes" from now on to keep you calm.

Also, please don't fire your childish insults at me, I find them quite boring. I have a quite indepth knowledge of the games industry actually, and don't appreciate your tone. Also, don't tell me how to use my time.

Granted, your "Legion" game may have been released in 2000, but so was Shogun: Total War. Two different games you may say, but of the same vein regardless. While I accept that you may not be plagiarising CA after all, the fact that you've continued along the Roman theme while they've adapted and presented different scenarios shows the difference between an unsuccessful, stagnant games company, and the highly successful CA. Let's compare Legion and Shogun shall we? Can you tell me which one sold more copies? *Hint* It wasn't you!

There are no truly original ideas any more, but rehashing the same old idea time and time again is frankly abusing your "fan base" (which I presume consists of you, your mum, and some 35 year old guy you met in a chatroom while pretending to be a teenage girl).

May I be so bold as to propose a few suggestions for improving your games:
1. Buy a copy of Medieval 2: Total War - this is to see how it should be done.
2. The year 2000 called and it wants it's textures back.
3. Drop the Roman theme and come up with something new - you're really just milking it now!

P.S. Banning me suggests you don't want, or fear, counter argument. You can ban me again if you wish, but I think that will really show your true, cowardly colours to your *ahem* "fan base".

I am glad to see you have retracted all of your original comments and realise now that you were wrong - no aplology necessary :)

I'm dissapointed that instead you have just chosen some more random and incorrect facts to complain about!

Yes, offloading 150,000 copies of Legion to my mum was a difficult sell, but she built a new warehouse and happily stores them there, dusting them once a week. She still buys 1000 a month, from locations all around the world!

Yes, being a stagnant company is a real bore, going from 1 game every 18 months to 3 games this year alone shows that utter stagnation.

Shogun did sell more copies than Legion, therefore we should all go out and commit sepuku. I'm truly ashamed that our team of one programmer and one artist could not compete with CA massive team. Luckily the team 0has grown since then :)

We should definitely drop the Roman theme. Spartan, Gates of Troy, Chariots of War, Commander Europe at War, and Arcane Legions all closely follow that theme. Ah, no they don't do they! Another mistake?

Yes I am totally terrified of you - which is why I deleted your original post and banned your IP address, then deleted this second post. Ah no, my mistake, I did neither.

Your username is offensive - you therefore will be banned again. We welcome any reasoned discussion from people with inoffensive usernames.

I wish I had more time to play but being a grown up with a real job reduces my free time ;)

Hi little Troll,

What's your point at:
1. create a stupid user name
2. blaming a game you haven't played

I have all the total war games on my computer and all games by Slitherines so i enjoy both...still there is one great difference: i never lose any TW game while i have a very hard time to win the games by Slitherine. The progress made by Slitherine (very small team) has been HUGE...TM has 100 or more people working on their games...
Seems you're as clever as the AI in the TW games....

Cheerio

you people are way too polite. I would've given him no reply and a complete ban right away.

BTW, I like the new effects in this game

Ok...back to the topic:

Iain, not sure if the game is already gone gold but it would be great if you could add a random creator of battles (for example huge maps with 40 squads on each side would be awesome) to add replayability for Single Players.

Cheers

It seems very nice and the screenshots are great. However, since it is individual battles and there is no campain I will continue to wait anxiously for Legion II
