Field Fortifications + Stakes?

Post by imanfasil »

FF - I am trying to model some basic earth works to use as FF. I see the depth is supposed to be 15mm and they are supposed to have a clear front and back. Any recommendations or things to watch out for? I have so many armies from all time periods I was going to try to keep them on the generic side so they wouldn't be out of place in any period.

Stakes - I was also going to model some stakes. Should they be 15mm deep as well? I was planning on making them thinner than that, but would like for them to be legal in case I ever stumbled into a tournament.

Thanks!

Kebab sticks for TF, cocktail sticks for stakes. Just put a little blue tac on the base, stick them in, stakes at an angle spaced out, TF together straight up, paint and flock. Even I can do it.

I made FF earthworks by carving styrofoam. Keep the back straight like a wall, and carve the front so it gradually slopes to the front of the base. Matchsticks glued horizontally to the back will give a nice appearance of wood to shore up the earth from falling in on your troops. I painted them shades of brown, added some grass and long grass to the front base, a few even had some nice puddles out front for the enemy to get stuck in if they attack over them. all you need is a sharp knife I found one with an adjustable blade worked best and try to keep the carving rough so it looks more like piled up earth.

Make them on 15mm bases they can then double up and will not be illegal.
