Battle of Flodden Field, 1513

Post by stockwellpete »

EDIT: Right, here is the second instalment of my "Futile Scottish Invasions" series, Flodden 1513 . . . :

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15461007/Flodde ... 20PWv4.rar

P.S. If I have upset any Scots with that remark, have no fear, I will shortly be re-dressing the balance somewhat with a rendering of a relatively obscure Robert the Bruce triumph over the hapless Edward II in 1322 - and Ancrum Moor 1545 won't be too long either.

Help with Files

Post by Old_Warrior »

I put these files into the Games folder. I could not find the Flodden scenario in the list.

I have the core game, all modules and the latest update to the FOG game. Did I do something wrong?

Hmm . . . if you put them in your Slitherine "Scenarios" folder rather than your "Saved games" folder (is that what you mean?) then it should work. Sorry, I am not the most IT literate person to advise you. If you still cannot get the game then perhaps somebody else could advise?

You have to save the files this way:

MyDocuments\Slitherine\FieldOfGlory Scenarios\Battle of Flodden 1513\data

At least it worked for me :D

Great scenario, thanks for sharing!

I put them in the Games folder. I do not have a Scenarios or a Saved Games folder.

See this link for a pic of my Games folder. You will see all of the folders for the main scenarios that came with the game and the modules.

Downloading scenarios - how to do it -

1 Download the file from the link
2 Once downloaded, double click on the filename. This will open the WinRAR dialog box (you will need a program that reads RAR files to do this)
3 Click 'Close' on the 'Please purchase WinRAR license' box
4 Click on the 'Extract to' button
5 Scroll down the 'Extract path and options' box until you have 'My Documents\Slitherine\FieldofGlory Scenarios' highlighted (if using XP)
6 Click OK
7 Open My Documents and see if the scenario folder is there
8 Open Field of Glory
9 Select 'New Game'
10 Pick the 'Custom Game' box at the top of the screen
11 Scroll down and pick the game title

I do not have such a directory in my game folder. I have the Matrix games version of the game. I got the game from the Matrix website. Odd that there should be two different setups of the game.

Scenarios have to be saved to your My Documents folder

Look for the Slitherine folder in there, the games installs the folder there for your custom scenarios.

OK?

Thanks - that worked. Odd place to stick a directory. Wish they had put it down in the game folders.

The word from the developers is that newer operating systems require this aproach, not sure about that technical aspect because i have plenty of new games that dont do this...

Good ole MS screwing things up for us. NVidia recenently did the same for other manufacturers as well. Their newer cards on systems required vendors to change the way they address DirectX and its causing a lot of the smaller developers to just consider getting out of the business as a result.

Have you tried the scenario yet? How did you get on with it? In play-testing so far the Scots are doing rather better than they did back in 1513!

Firstly, thanks for this scenario. I walked the battlefield only a couple of years ago and so it was good to play it. I agree, the Scots probably are a bit stronger than they were in rl, but it was a really enjoyable struggle. Keep 'em coming!

Who won your game then? The Scots are leading 2-1 in completed play-tests that I am aware of so far.

Btw - for people playing this for the first time, the optional "historical variation" is to have Lord Stanley's English contingent start moving on turn 5 instead of turn 1. In the real battle, he got left behind in the rush to get at the Scots.

Ok, thanks for that. It seems that I will probably need to tilt it slightly towards the English before sending it in to the developers.
