Any chance of modding this game to include realistic troop numbers and larger hexes to accomodate such?
I would like to put 1000 - 1500 men on the base stands and be able to zoom to seem them.......

Inititially I want to just put 1000 men on the bases and see them in formation. Later I want to put officers and standard bearers or different stances for the further back ranks in a phalanx for example.

Ha ha , it would be interesting to see, especially on the Octagons (instead of Hexes) you were refering to in your other postings :)

I'm not sure that actual troop number representation is required for FOG. It is a digital version of the (very good) table-top wargame rules. As a long time wargamer I am happy with the miniatures look and feel of the FOG graphical system. I also enjoy Tin Soldiers for the same reason - especially the "hand" that comes down to remove the "dead" figures :)

I find it amusing that you guys are so set in your ways you have no vision of what the original wargames trying to do. Simulate a war as close as possible to the real thing. That means the whole deal including simulating formations and what an legion might be able to do with one.
I guess I am a mix of simulator man and wargamer.
The limitations of yesteryear are no more we have computers now.

Now to the octagon room ;)

The images are .png files so you could change them if you wanted. You can find them in sub folders in \program files\slitherine\fieldofglory\armies. There are over 4,000 images, so it would be a lot of work!

Well, the limitiations in techology of yesteryear ar gone but the limitations of the market are still here. I think many gamers do yearn for something that does these things but also want it to be fun, these are games after all. Not sure why you would declare people who actually like this game 'lacking in vision" or ignorant of wargames. It must be your sense of humour, slighty off kilter but i think i get it, it is subtle but someone who is arguing for Octagons to replace Hexes and at the same time demanding a leap forward to realism/simulation cleary must have a good sense of humour to purposefully set up the "irony" factor. Of course you could also be insane

I don't know why you all think octagons are a bad idea ... :D

Just think, if you're in a tricky situation and losing badly, you could just move your units into the little squares between the tiles and your units would be safe till you moved them out again!

No, the small squares are reserved for smaller units , like Hobbits or Gnome archers :)

mmmm ..... I'm thinking of the possibilities for FOG expansions. Flying units that move in the squares (diamonds)? Cave or tunnel movement (for the Cave Trolls and Orcs)?
