Turn 66 - Grozny oil field secured! Battles near Basra!

This turn the severe winter stops, but it is still winter. I secure the Grozny oil field and rail some units to the south as King Hunter seems to want to cut off my southern strike force:

Image

I also upgrade some units to SS status.

In the Middle East the Soviets continue their march towards Tehran:

Image

I also destroy the US INF in Ahwaz and the US FTR takes heavy losses against the Luftwaffe FTR:

Next turn I could secure the oil field near Ahwaz. I finish the turn with more then 300 oil. I also attacked two convoys in the Atlantic and an Italian BB ran into a British SUB.

Turn 67 - Spring offensive begins! Ahwaz taken by Manstein!

It is fair weather in Russia and the Axis begin an offensive near Stalingrad:

Image

I will try to encircle some Soviet INF and/or take Stalingrad if possible.

I do not attack the Caucasus and will try to hold Maikop and Grozny as long as possible:

Image

In the Middle East my ARM is down to 3 steps and repaired back tp 5 steps. With support of two TAC air strikes the MECH with Manstein takes Ahwaz without any losses:

Just one question, if I cut off th Caucasus, will the Soviets still be able to rail units there?

He obviously won't be able to rail units from the rest of Russia into or out of the Caucasus or vice versa; but he will be able to rail units in the Caucasus that are in supply level 4 to controlled cities (I think they have to be Russian controlled but I'm not sure) that can be reached by passing through friendly controlled hexes.

Turn 68 - Stalingrad falls! Last oil field in the Middle East taken by the Axis!

In Russia the Axis take Stalingrad and unguarded Kerch:

Image

Luftwaffe engages the Soviet air force and both take heavy losses, but the Soviet losses are higher:

Image

In the Middle East I destroy another US INF and take the last (fat) oil field near Ahwaz:

Image

However, the Soviets advance into Persia. I attack a FTR on recon mission with an Italian INF, but the assault on Tehran and northern Iraq will soon begin:

Image

Last but not least it is unbelievable how much oil I burn per turn. I hold two oil field in Russia and the whole Middle East, but if I attack everywhere I still spent more oil then I gain (right now I gain 86 oil per turn).

Now you can unhinge his entire southern front in Russia... make him pay for having sent so many units into Persia.

What does Army Group North look like? The area around Minsk looks pretty wide open to a Soviet counter attack.

That's right, but I do not have the units to fill the gap right now and it does not seem that King Hunter intends to attack there. Should he do it, I will quickly rail some troops there. I also placed a fully entrenched Paradivision in Minsk, because of its high defence value. I also have some reserve forces which can be quickly railed in. Nevertheless, this is my biggest problem right now. I'm outnumbered nearly everywhere by the Soviets and I fear I could get overrun somewhere.

Turn 69 - Axis launch Operation Zitadelle, US Navy makes a move, Red Army attacks Tehran!

In the Soviet Union the Axis launch Operation Zitadelle. The idea is to make some major encirclements of Soviet units and to take some more Key cities:

Image

The conquest of Kursk was made possible after the 8 step Soviet FTR tried to intercept a German TAC. Luftwaffe inflicted 4 steps on it. Afterwards a German FTR attacked the airbase and the Fallschirmjäger finished it off. Soviet airforce took heavy losses this turn and I hope it will move away. With some luck I will be able to encircle more units next turn.

In the Middle East the Soviets attack the Italian fully entrenched INF in Tehran. It only takes 2 steps of damage and I can bring it back to 10 steps.

Image

I also attack an US INF near Basra, but it survives with 2 steps. The badly damaged ARM is brought back to 6 steps. Reinforcements are coming from the MED.

In the Atlantic a massive US Sub attack damages a German BB (down to 3 steps):

Image

The BB flees to Las Palmas and I hope it will survive in the port. My STR makes a sortie and an US SUB takes heavy losses.

The US navy also makes a sortie from their ports:

Image

At the end of my turn 5 minor Axis INF (2 Bulgarian, 1 Hungarian, 2 Romanian) are finally freed as reinforcements. This is a new in GS 2.0. The axis player does only get all of the minor Axis INF if he attacks Greece and Yugoslavia. Otherwise he gets them later in the war in 1943:

Image

This will greatly help me in my defense against partisans.

Unfortunately my opponent suffers from technical problems and cannot restore his 2.00g GS Version of the game, meaning that the game is aborted and will not be finished.

Can't you both upgrade to the latest version?

As far as I understood this will not work as the newer patches are not compatible to the older ones or I'm wrong?
