Wouldn´t they be a very useful addition?

They should be easy to implement, just mark a spot and on next turn the plane would reveal what´s around it (with a 5 or 6 square radius). Even more useful than Stukas...

I agree that they would be a nice addition to the game. I'm not sure if they should be on map units that you move around, have no weapons, and can be killed by AA only, or if they should be computer controlled bonus items like the planes we have now.

I was thinking of them as the same bonus airplanes we had now.

It would be strange have planes on the map moving as the rest of units...

Yes, for me it is very necessary for additional audition.

I made a spotter plane from a hurricane. Gave it 0 effect, front of fire 10, length of fire 10, spread of fire 5, delay to use again of 2 turns. It somewhat checkboards the target area with visible spots. It arrives at the beginning of your turn, spots the random squares. Next turn the are not visible again.
