AI and Victory Point Tools Tutorial

Post by junk2drive »

I have created a tutorial with pictures for using the AI tool in the editor that sets aggression and points to go toward plus the Victory Points, Turns and Flags tool.

It is in Open Office format. Open Office is free, open source software that opens and saves most Microsoft office items or saves as OO formats. I use it for editing the csv and lots of other docs.

Get the tutorial here

PDF version here

EDIT: I cannot get the VP tool to work with side0 defending flags as I lay out in this doc. As soon as I figure it out I will post an update.

UPDATE see this thread on Defend with VP plugin

Junk, I get a blank page from your link. Is there some other way to get this file? Thanks, Rich.

Gah. Dropbox and its expiring links! I don't have a copy I don't think, but I will look.

Cheers

Thanks Pip. I don't know what's in it, if it will be worth the search or not... I'm looking for more info on the AI.

For example. When I set aggression to either 0, 16, or 18, the AI attacks.
But what I notice is, the AI moves across open areas using 'hunt' movements.
So, they move kind of slow for a bigger map, and they aren't good at moving on to attack the next VP flags.
They also seem a bit afraid to cross over a single-lane bridge; maybe the Soviets were afraid of water?

What would be ideal for me would be a setting which, if no enemy contact in view, they move at full speed,
and then drop into hunt mode speed once contact is made. Although if a large AI team is on the move, and some
lead unit makes contact 20 tiles away, I fear the rear units will move at hunt mode based on the team logic...
Any suggestions besides trying to script smarter AI ...? I figure scripting this behavior is out of my league...

You can change (and see) how the AI works (and indeed how it reacts to the aggression settings) in the AI.bsf file - which can be set up per-campaign for modded campaigns.

Cheers
