Indeed. I wonder how you will sustain a big offensive in spring when your oil level is so low - you run the risk of running out of oil in summer 42 already!GaryChildress wrote:166 oil? You'd better get to those Middle East oil wells soon!

I know, I will have about 250 oil at the start of my offensive and this will have to be enough to get the Oil Fields in the Middle East and/or Maikop/Grozny. Then I will go on the defensive again to save oil.eisenkopf wrote:Indeed. If the Russians have sent troops to Iraq you could be in big trouble, that's a very low amount of oil at this stage of the game. This will be interesting.zechi wrote:I know, I will have about 250 oil at the start of my offensive and this will have to be enough to get the Oil Fields in the Middle East and/or Maikop/Grozny. It would have been more interesting, if the Allies had guessed correctly that your Barbarossa would have been rather weak, bought an additional STR and started bombing Ploesti from the Crimea. You'd probably be down another 30 oil.
Turn 48 - Soviets air strikes in Finnland! Preparations for Fall Blau continues! Red Army spotted in Iraq!
King Hunter seems to plan an offensive against Finnland:

I could send two German INF as reinforcements to Finnland, but I do not know if this is wise. I could also let King Hunter fights its way through the Finns, this will occupy him and the units in Finnland will be missing in the south.
In southern Russia I prepare my offensive which will start on the first fair weather turn. This turn I got a new ARM upgrade and the frontline units all receive new Panzers:

In the Middle East I spot the Soviet frontline protecting the oil fields. Not so impressive, but more units could be in hiding:

If there are not more reinforcements waiting in hiding, this Soviet force should be manageable.

Turn 49 - Soviet air force takes heavy losses in battle ove Iraq. Red Army attacks in Finnland.
The investment in Italian Labs pays off:

I upgrade the Italian units in the Middle East as my advance towards the oil continues:

The Soviet air force tried to bomb the Italian MECH, but suffered heavy losses against superior Luftwaffe FTR. Italian MECH did not suffer any losses.
In Finnland the Red Army attacks despite muddy weather:

I will bring two more German INF to Finnland to bolster its defence as soon as the weather turns fair. I also bought 3 German INF this turn.
Next turn will be a guaranteed fair weather turn in Russia and Fall Blau will be unleashed!

Turn 50 - Fall Blau unleashed! Kiev falls! Attack on Bagdad begins! Finnland under pressure!
I begin the turn with 282 points of oil and unleash Case Blue, the Axis offensive in the southern Soviet Union.
As expected Kiev falls:

However, I did not expect that the Red Army would be so powerful in this sector. Nevertheless, I'm optimistic to break through the line as the Soviet units lack tech upgrades.
In Finnland the Soviet offensive continues, but I can cut off an ARM. However, it will surely regain supply next turn and my unit will be cut off.

In the Middle East I attack Bagdad with good results as it is guarded by a Persian GAR. Furthermore, I spot a Soviet ARM as well in the north.

As both Persian GAR are in Iraq I wonder if Basra and the Persian oil fields are guarded at all?

Turn 51 - Kirkuk oil field falls in Axis hands! Massive Allied invasion fleet spotted! Red Army suffers heavy losses as Army Group South unleashes its Fury!
In the Atlantic a massive Allied invasion Fleet is spotted:

I try to block the Waypoint to the Persian Gulf as the other waypoint cannot be reached this turn by the transports. This will be an interesting naval battle. There are six DD, 2 BB, 1 CV and 2 Allied SUBs, against my 4 BB, 2 DD, and 5 nearby SUBs. However, I fear that the Allied fleet is stronger as the Regia Marina itech level is not so good and it will have the first strike. Furthermore, if I battle the RN and US Navy, I cannot attack the transports the same time and they will make it.
In the Middle East I take the Kirkuk oil field with the Afrikakorps:

If there are not more Soviet units hiding, I have got the chance to secure northern Iraq and perhaps northern Persia as well!
The advance of Army Group South continues as the Red Army takes heavy losses:

I even manage to cut off some Soviet units. I think it is an error that King Hunter attacks in Finnland. The units he uses there are missing in the south, which is very good for me and I see a chance to overhelm the Red Army in this sector if there are no reinforcements hiding.
In Finnland the Soviets land some units near Vaasa:

I also bring in some reinforcements from Army Group North.

I was going to post something yesterday about King Hunter's attack on Finland being a strange choice. I don't see the strategic advantage in diverting all those units to Finland at the price of leaving so much of the USSR vulnerable.zechi wrote: I think it is an error that King Hunter attacks in Finnland.
Turn 52 - Naval battle in south Atlantic begins! Axis advance in Iraq continues! Heavy fighting in southern Russia! Finnland fights for survival!
This was a big turn. Firstly, King Hunter did not attack my assembled fleet at the waypoint but advances only carfully. Since this gave me the possibility of a first strike I attacked:

I sink the last RN BB and two Allied DD take heavy losses and the CV moderate losses. Unfortunately one of my DD runs into an Allied SUB. I had hoped to block this hex so that the transport could not reach the waypoints. Since I do not really know how ZOCs work in naval combat I'm not sure if the transports can reach one or even both waypoints?
In southern Russia my offensive continues despite some losses last turn (1 ARM and 1 MECH). The Soviets take more heavy losses but I will need still a few turns to reach my primary target cities.

In Iraq I seem to have luck as no hidden Red Army units attack my spearhead units. The Soviet ARM is finished off and my attacks continue as well as the race for Basra.

I wonder if I get access to the Middle East railway if I take both Basra and Bagdad, but if I remember correctly this is not the case.
In Finnland the Red Army breaks breaks through and I will not be able to hold Finnland very long I fear, but this is OK as far s these units stay occupied in the north.

Nope, you need Turkey to connect with axis rail network. On a good side you will be able to rail all units within 40(50?) hexes range from Rome and Berlin, including ones in Lybia.zechi wrote: I wonder if I get access to the Middle East railway if I take both Basra and Bagdad, but if I remember correctly this is not the case.
Turn 53 - Allied navy trapped! Red Army in full retreat in southern Russia! Mosul Oil field taken by Axis forces.
The combined Allied fleet did not attack, but instead fled towards the US. What a big mistake as I devastate them and even manage to trap the remaining fleet:

I have to admit that this encirclement is a little bit cheesy, because it is only possible because of the end of the map
However, this is the chance to destroy the whole Allied fleet. I hope that King Hunter will not break through somehow (there are some SUBs lurking somwhere). If they cannot escape the western Allies will not be able to launch any invasion of Europe or any other theater in the near future and I rule the Atlantic.
The Allied transports took the path through the Persian Gulf waypoint, so they will land in Basra.
In the Middle East I destroy some more Red Army forces and take the Mosul oil field:

The Italian MECH races towards Ahwaz, which was a good decision since Basra is garrisoned and Ahwaz is only protected by a FTR.
In southern Russia the Red Army retreats, but I continue my offensive:

I hope I will be able to block the Soviet Army group near Gomel and rush for the more interesting cities and oil fields of Maikop and Grozny.
In Finland I'm able to do some counterattacks, but without heavy reinforcements Finland will surely fall in a few turns:

Everything seems to work perfectly. However, my oil begins to go down (I get about 60 oil points per turn) quickly.

Turn 54 - Combined Allied Fleet nearly wiped out! Axis take Kharkov! Attacks on Ahwaz and Mosul!
The combined allied fleet is nearly totally destroyed. Only one DD survives but is still trapped:

I don't think the western Allies will recover from this blow before 1944-45.
In southern Russia may advance continues and the Axis take Kharkov:

However, the oil field are still far away and my oil situation becomes dire. Furthermore, some of my spearhead units are quite damaged/exposed for counterattacks.
In Finland the Red Army takes some losses, but next turn Oslo will be in danger:

No way that I can save Finland, but I hope to occupy these units at least for 2-3 turns before Oslo falls.
In the Middle East I attack Mosul, which will fall next turn I hope. Near Ahwaz my Italian MECH attacks a British airbase. However, I fear the it will be attacked by several air units next turn which landed around Basra. I also realized that King Hunter could sent his transports through the waypoint agains towards the Red Sea and attack there!

Good that I brought in some Italian reinforcements there.

Turn 55 - Stalino falls! Mosul and Ahwaz taken by Axis forces!
In southern Russia Axis Army offensive continues concentrating in eliminating enemy forces:

I also bombed the Black Sea Fleet and attacked with the Romanian DD as two German INF try to take Maikop oilfield by naval landings.
In the Middle East Ahwaz is taken without a fight as the RAF retreats:

I spot some of the Allied forces King Hunter brought to this theater.
In the north Finland is in a dire situation:

In the Atlantic I finish of the last Allied DD and move the fleet for repairs and upgrades towards Spain. An Allied convoy is destroyed on the way.

Turn 56 - Case Blue continues! Axis Army in the Middle East moves towards Allied reinforcements!
In souther Russia my offensive continues:

I could get to Maikop, but Grozny oil field should be too far away.
In Finland Oslo will fall next turn or at most 2 turns, so I choose not to reinforce with German INF:

Perhaps I should have brought in more units to stop the Red Army, but I needed nearly every unit at hand.
In the Middle East the US forces make an appearance:

It should be difficult to reinforce this theater without any navy, so I have good chance to wipe the Allies out with my forces at hand.
